LOT Polish Airlines has again revised its operations between Warsaw and Skopje for the upcoming winter season, effectively making the route seasonal. In June, the Star Alliance member had planned to operate flights to the Macedonian capital until November 30, before resuming services on February 22. However, as of this week, all flights have been cancelled for the entire 2026/27 winter season, which runs from October 25 until March 28. The airline’s final Skopje service of the year is now scheduled for October 23.

DeleteAgree that WAW in winter was a good option for connecting flight for US East Coast (NY, DC, Chicago). and Canada, areas with Balkans diaspora. It was modeately cheaper than VIE or FRA and timewise way more convenient than IST. So, I guess this is good news for Austrian Airlines rather than Croatian airlines. Not too much direct traffic between Skopje and Warsaw, especially not in the winter.

DeleteMost pax using OU are with onwards to DBV, SPU, ZAD, AMS or CDG, I see very rarely an onward to CPH or ARN since SKP has direct flights to both (MMX is alternative for CPH).

DeleteSKP diaspora is coming back in summer not in winter. No diaspora is coming back from USA,Canada, Australia in winter. So those routes as WAW are clearly just summer demand, and it is same since they enter Macedonia in 2018 they always suspend SKP at winter

DeleteAll those legacy retreating from ex YU markets is probably something that is positive for JU to consolidate its regional leader position.
ReplyDeleteOn the other side I have a wider concern that if all these airlines are stopping at least for the winter that probably means that regional economies are underperforming.
That and also carriers are struggling or at least they are not as flexible financially as they used to be.

DeleteLO was a good option for transfers from SKP - JU is not. Quite frankly I think that OS and Turkish both with two flights a day and some sporadic options such as JU, OU and Aegean is more than sufficient.

DeleteWell, if you leave in middle of Macedonia as I do, you have two airports (Skopje and Thessaloniki) both on one hour car ride, but the reality is that Ryanair made a great reduction on their flights from Thessaloniki and its not that competitive airport anymore

DeleteBarely who uses Solun airport to fly out of Macedonia. Nobody from anywhere in Macedonia will go through border with car or taxi and paying pay tools in both countries to reach Solun airport. Just doesnt make sense at all

DeleteLOT and before cuts frequencies on its SKP route so this is nothing new. This route especially is used mostly for transfer to USA/Canada transfer passengers which in winter months the demand is low, which is very normal and common for alot of airports with the size of SKP. Anyway they are coming back form 4th of April 2027

DeleteGreat news for TK. Jyst about all of this route wad transfers to USA. TK has the most extensive neteork there. Turkish airlines are killing it in SKP anywsy.

DeleteWell, first LH now LOT. I just flew with them few days ago. WAW-SKP lf was 95% on E195. My options to/from Baltic are getting smaller and smaller. Too bad to lose 2 important carriers. And LOT was flying during winter, just reduced weekly operations. I have been using them especially around xmas period.
