Dubrovnik Airport has begun introducing a new generation of security screening equipment as part of a wider upgrade of its passenger processing and baggage systems. The airport is installing six C3 EDS CB cabin baggage screening units and six passenger security scanners, making it the first airport in Croatia to introduce the technology across its security screening process. The C3 EDS CB equipment creates a three-dimensional image of the contents of cabin baggage, enabling security personnel to conduct a more detailed inspection and improve the detection of prohibited and dangerous items. Passengers using the new equipment are no longer required to remove liquids, laptops, tablets, mobile phones or other larger electronic devices from their bags prior to screening. The first cabin baggage scanner is already operational, while the remaining five are due to be installed by the beginning of December. Once the rollout is completed, the airport’s entire passenger and cabin baggage screening system will use the new-generation equipment. New passenger scanners are designed to further reduce the need for physical searches. Passengers stand inside the unit for several seconds, after which the system automatically alerts security personnel if it detects an area requiring additional inspection.

The security upgrade forms part of a broader modernisation of passenger processing at Dubrovnik. The airport is also implementing a 3.2-million-euro replacement of its check-in and baggage processing platform, including eight self-service check-in kiosks and fourteen self-service bag-drop units. The previous system had created compatibility issues with some airlines, particularly US carriers, as well as problems with online check-in. The replacement is being introduced in stages, with full implementation scheduled by the end of the year.
Dubrovnik has introduced SITA’s AI-powered WorldTracer Bag Mate service for mishandled baggage. The system enables passengers to report missing luggage from their mobile device instead of queuing at a baggage desk and uses an automated process to guide them through the claim. The airport says around 80% of lost baggage cases can be resolved immediately through the platform. The project forms part of a wider digitalisation partnership between Dubrovnik Airport and SITA.

ReplyDeleteYes. Self-service check in and bag drops will surely reduce queues. Awful - I cannot stand those. We have to do everything by ourselves and then get charged for it.
