Wizz Air is continuing to significantly expand its operations from Pristina, with the low cost carrier scheduling five new routes for launch this December and its second based aircraft. The airline will introduce services to Berlin, Hahn, Hamburg, Malmo and Trieste, further strengthening its position at Pristina Airport just weeks after announcing the new base in the city, complemented by the introduction of three routes.

Flights between Pristina and Berlin will commence on December 14 and operate three times per week. Services to Hahn will launch on the same day and run four times weekly. The following day, December 15, Wizz Air will introduce four weekly flights to Hamburg and three weekly rotations to Malmo. Finally, the carrier will commence a two weekly service to Trieste on December 19. The latter will temporarily pause between January 10 and March 19, before resuming for the remainder of the season.

Route Launch date
Pristina - Berlin 14.12.2026
Pristina - Hahn 14.12.2026
Pristina - Hamburg 15.12.2026
Pristina - Malmo 15.12.2026
Pristina - Trieste 19.12.2026
Click link for details

The five new routes will add a further sixteen weekly departures from Pristina at the peak of the winter schedule. They come on top of Wizz Air’s previously announced major expansion in Pristina  which includes the establishment of a base with a 239-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft from November. As part of that expansion, the airline is launching new services to Basel, Baden Baden and Charleroi, while increasing frequencies to Dortmund.

With the latest additions, Wizz Air is set to grow its Pristina network to fourteen destinations. Alongside the newly announced services and those launching in November, the airline maintains flights from the city to London Luton, Bratislava, Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, Memmingen and Dortmund.

Wizz Air has been rapidly increasing its presence in Pristina amid changes in the competitive landscape at the airport. During the first half of 2026, the airline operated approximately 1.400 flights and handled more than 304.000 passengers on its Pristina services. The carrier previously said its base opening would make it the largest scheduled airline at the airport.

I doubt it will surpass ZAG.
Wizz is attacking existing routes in PRN - not exactly creating new markets.
And that has an effect on the overall PAX increase.

The Government of Kosovo does not subsidize airlines. It has never done so before. This year, however, it made an exception by allocating a €2 million fund specifically to help airlines operating in Kosovo maintain their flight schedules.

The Government of Kosovo has allocated €2 million for airlines operating in Kosovo to help prevent flight cancellations, mainly due to the increase in jet fuel prices.

To benefit from these funds, airlines must meet certain criteria. The measure applies to airlines that “maintain the frequency of flights at more than 85% of their planned schedule for 2026.”

In addition, each flight must have more than 80% of its seats occupied.

The €3 payment will be made in cooperation with Prishtina Airport. In this arrangement, the Government will pay €2.10, while the remaining amount will be covered by the airport.

Wizz Air will not benefit significantly from this, considering that it had relatively few routes in its 2026 schedule. The main beneficiary here has been GP Aviation.

However, I think Wizz Air is making a strong push in Prishtina. Considering the high fuel prices and the situation within GP Aviation, the outlook for the company is not very promising. This creates a significant opportunity for Wizz Air to benefit from the space that could be created if GP Aviation fails.

      @11:26 Vienna is still possble.
Wizz might not have a base in VIE anymore, but that doesn't mean it can't operate with an aircraft based in PRN.
Before VIE-PRN ended - the route was carrying 150k PAX annually. Probably the best performing route in Kosovo by a single operator. Likely one of the busiest in whole exYU as well.

Every time passenger numbers start falling at an ex-Yu airport they run to Wizz. First Podgorica, now Pristina.

I don't think PRN gave them anything more than what everyone else could take. Wizz just has extra capacity and flexibility which they didn't have before and are now expanding everywhere makes sense.

The fees that pristina governmenrt has set for the airport are very high , so Wizz air without subsidies is not coming there. They already talked about that the fess there are very expensive to open a base

Pristina has one of the strongest VFR markets in the Balkans, so Wizz probably sees very little risk here.

Only after they got subsidies. Until then they didn't want to open a base even though it was a no brainer

Subsidies were due to the fuel prices, and not to stimulate new demand.

No. Wizz has long complained about fees at PRN. There is even an interview here with Varadi where he was asked about PRN and he said the fees are too high because they are set by the government and not the airport operator. If it was up to the airport operator, the airline would probably have opened a base a long time ago.

Hopefully this does not end with too much capacity being dumped into the market and routes disappearing after one season.

The biggest winner here is Pristina Airport. Wizz is adding a huge amount of capacity in just a few months.

      Nothing huge here.

Wizz recently opened 14 new destinations out of Podgorica in one go, less then half the size of PRN.

Just these 5 routes, if maintained all year are about 400k seats.

      @14:34

Exactly. 400k will make up for what GP is, and will be losing this year.
Not enough for growth. Let alone double-digit growth, what PRN is used to.

What’s the secret? PIA is the most expensive airport! How on earth are they securing Wizz bases? I don’t understand it! 😂 they’ve been begging Wizz since 2015… anyway, congrats, Pristina! 🫡

It is not PIA it is PRN, second it is not a base , W6 air doesn't have any base in PRN, it is just launching routes.
