Air Serbia will introduce six new routes next summer season including flights to its latest long-haul destination - Miami. The carrier's CEO, Jiri Marek, announced this evening on the "RTS" public broadcaster that Air Serbia will add Yerevan in late March, Helsinki from April, two weekly flights to Miami from May, Cluj in Romania in late May, as well as Chisinau in Moldova and Menorca in Spain in June. As a result, the airline will now serve nine destinations in Spain and three in the United States, while entering the Moldovan market for the first time. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow, October 20.
Air Serbia has been considering nonstop flights between Belgrade and Miami since 2023. Miami could benefit from several sources of demand, including the sizeable diaspora from the former Yugoslavia in Florida and the wider southeastern United States. Miami's position as a major gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean would also provide opportunities for connecting traffic, particularly through an existing interline agreement with American Airlines, which operates an extensive network from its Miami hub. The city is also one of the world's leading cruise ports, offering potential demand from passengers travelling from Southeast Europe to join Caribbean cruises.
Air Serbia launched flights between Belgrade and Helsinki on June 1, 2019, marking its entry into the Finnish market. The route initially operated three times per week using Airbus A319 aircraft and was intended to cater to both point-to-point demand and connecting passengers travelling between Finland and Southeast Europe via Belgrade. However, services were suspended in March 2020 following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and have not resumed since.
The Serbian carrier first announced plans to introduce nonstop flights between Belgrade and Chisinau in February 2020, initially scheduling four weekly services to the Moldovan capital as part of a wider network expansion that summer. However, the launch was cancelled following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting restrictions on international travel. Although the route subsequently appeared in the airline's future schedules, services never materialised.
The Serbian airline has previously confirmed the launch of Yerevan flights. It will face direct competition from FlyOne Armenia, which plans to introduce operations between the two capitals this December. FlyOne recently extended its initial schedule past the winter season into next summer. Air Serbia will now serve three capitals in the Caucuses with Yerevan complementing Tbilisi and Baku.
Menorca will become Air Serbia’s ninth destination in Spain. The Spanish market has been one of the airline’s best performers this year. The second largest of Spain’s Balearic islands will join Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Seville and Tenerife. On the other hand, Cluj becomes Air Serbia’s second destination in Romania after Bucharest.

Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThat RMO IATA code must have been the most stupid from any airport around the world.
DeleteChisinau has two IATA codes: RMO (stands for Republic of Moldova) and KIV (stands for Russian name "Кишинёв")
DeleteYou can't have 2 IATA codes. Pick one
DeleteBravo Air Serbia 👏
ReplyDeleteVery smart yet relatively conservative expansion. Congrats on good decisions, not much to criticize, hope the frequencies to CLJ/KIV/EVN will be high enough and whether the E-jet will operate the last one.
DeleteAt this point we can say that their Euro-Mediterranean network is more or less complete.
Missing points that we could see in a couple of years (some of them expected this year) are:
- Kosice
- Lublin
- Kaliningrad
- Minsk
- Erbil
- Beirut
- Damascus
- Cairo
- Algiers
- Addis Ababa (if cooperation with ET comes to fruition)
- Other destinations in the UK
...which is a very small list indeed.
JU shouldn't be afraid of FlyOne, but should have started the route much sooner. Interesting to see what frequencies they'll choose to face them or whether a codeshare might develop and they'll fight TK together.
All in all congrats and good evening ✨.
Oh Aerologic. Its been a while since you listed Addis. The new Cluj!
DeleteWell, better late then never, isn't it?
Delete"The Case For Addis Ababa (Opportunities)
Delete• Hub-to-Hub Synergy: Addis Ababa (Bole International Airport) is the primary base for Ethiopian Airlines, a massive continental carrier that already utilizes European gateways for fifth-freedom traffic and expressed openness to cooperation with Belgrade.
• Long-Haul Expansion Momentum: Air Serbia is experiencing consecutive years of long-haul growth and expanding its fleet capacity (reaching 40 aircraft), meaning it actively hunts for unique intercontinental connections outside heavily saturated Western European low-cost carrier lines.
• Point-to-Point and Transit Demand: Demand from the Western Balkans to Sub-Saharan Africa remains largely unserved by direct flights, with current traffic trickling through major foreign legacy hubs like Turkish Airlines or Air France.
• Non-EU Advantage: Operating flights outside the European Common Aviation Area (ECAA) allows Air Serbia to build a niche where budget competitors cannot easily replicate service without local operating certificates.
The Challenges (Obstacles)
• Ethiopian Airlines Dominance: Ethiopian Airlines already commands a vast, dense network across Africa and aggressively serves European points; competing or carving out viable feed at Addis Ababa would mean going up against an entrenched giant rather than an open vacuum.
• Thin Point-to-Point Yields: True local demand between Belgrade and East Africa is relatively low compared to North Africa (Egypt/Maghreb) or traditional migrant/business corridors, meaning the route would heavily rely on connecting traffic.
• Strategic Focus Elsewhere: Air Serbia's near-term long-haul and medium-haul priorities lean more toward China (Guangzhou, Shanghai), Central Asia (e.g., Tashkent), and closer regional or North African/Middle Eastern holiday charters rather than deep Sub-Saharan expansion. "
Thanks AI
DeleteImpressive
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be mean but the map of JU's launched new routes almost ressembles the total map of routes operated by OU... 😕
DeleteWhen OU flew to Miami, Cluj, Menorca, Yerevan, Chisinau? Maybe did Helsinki short time
DeleteThey were trying to be funny.
DeleteCluj guy has been vindicated.
ReplyDeleteOPA! Here we go. This is a significant achievement. My suggestion would be for all the regional ex-Yu airlines to consolidate into one giant airline and expand even further. Oh wait, never mind, I think someone tried that already.
DeleteToronto, done.
DeleteCluj, done.
Could Lagos be next
Haha
Cluj boy! I dock my hat to you!
DeleteI'm happy for Air Serbia but even happier for the CLJ guy. I hope you will be on the inaugural, friend.
Delete^ I agree. You'd better be on board and do a trip report...
DeleteAnd we read so many times that CLJ have no chance, by so many "experts". But Marek knows better.
Delete@19:54
DeleteYou forgot about MUC guy. He's still walking on air
MUC 😍😍😍
Delete@20.19
DeletePerhaps but people have been calling for Cluj for years and they are only launching it next year when their network will count over 100 destinations. Perhaps it could not work 4, 5 or 6 years ago when then network was not dense enough but will be able to work next year.
@20:19 well i'm sure you are an expert.
DeleteI only hope that CLJ and KIV are at least 3-4 weekly.
DeleteAnon 20.19
DeleteMarek just approved CLJ, there is a whole department that handles the network, these destinations originated there.
And anything else you can tell us?
DeleteWas Beirut also considered?
DeleteNo
DeleteDefinitely more and more ATR routes utilise Ejets and A319s. That's why we have new regional destinations.
Delete9 destinations in Spain is crazy! wow
ReplyDeleteSpain has been really popular this summer
DeleteIt’s about time we Balkan people discovered Spain. It has fantastic villages and cities, great infrastructure (the roads I drove on were a wet dream) and is still not too expensive. Not to mention culture, history, food, fashion…
DeleteSpain was a popular destination for holiday travel during Yugoslav times. Back then few people went to Greece. They stopped travelling to Spain during the 90s.
DeleteWhats the pw on the routes?
ReplyDeleteIt says Miami is 2 weekly. Waiting to see the others.
DeleteTicket sales starts tomorrow. Really, Miami, Helsinki, Cluj and Chisinau are all long overdue. Yerevan is not good to start with strong competition (3pw) at all. Apperently, still no free slots at Ibiza, so we get Menorca. Probably summer seasonal.
DeleteAs someone who has been to all of the Balearic Isles, Menorca is miles better than Ibiza.
DeleteIbiza is also horridly expensive.
Delete@19:59 - I'm not sure Air Serbia is exactly afraid of some stupid FlyOne from Moldova...
DeleteYerevan will be the toughest one for them in the region.
DeleteThey will really need to either deploy the Embraer or go all-in with a very high frequency.
Menorca is nice, but small. If you want to visit more historic places - Mallorca is the one.
Delete@21:16 They may try to lower their prices
DeleteReally good destinations actually. Nice expansion
ReplyDeleteCongrats! So they will go head to head with Fly One Armenia. It will be interesting to see if there is a market for both.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. Really happy to see Helsinki back. Maybe in a year or two Reykjavik winter seasonal :D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Reykjavik and Rovaniemi may complement Tromso
DeleteGreat to see regional expansion as well, congrats!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that yet another long haul route is launching.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteWill the current aircraft be sufficient for that?
Delete@20:52 You`re kidding, right?
DeleteThey probably dont realise the low utilisation rate
DeleteIs this the first time Air Serbia has announced new routes in the evening? :D All of them are pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI think so
DeleteMy guess is
ReplyDeleteYerevan - A319/A320
Cluj - ATR72
Chisinau - ATR72
Helsinki - E195
Miami - A330
Menorca - A319/A320
Can ATR make it to Chisinau?
DeleteYes. With ease.
DeleteIt fits perfectly in the midnight wave, at least that was the initial schedule from 2020
DeleteAnyone remember what were the planned frequencies back then?
DeleteATR has 1400km range. BEG Chisinau is 760km as the crow flies.
DeleteFour weekly
DeleteI heard that Serbian tourists may enter Moldova without a problems recently. Anyone to confirm?
DeleteThat is nonsense that often gets spread around. Ignore it.
DeleteYerevan can get the Embraer also actually.
DeleteWindrose used to fly KBP-BEG on the ATR, RMO is no problem.
DeletePreviously, RMO was planned at 4 pw in the midnight wave.
giving the fact that JU didnt even scratch all the opportunities regarding increasing the frequencies on many European, Russian routes, returning to Middle East, North Africa evregrowing Chinese demand.... I recon AirSERBIA could double its passagers numbers within 7-8 years...Crazy for such a small country....Well done JU management!
ReplyDeleteIncreasing frequencies will be what they do going forward on many routes. Twice a week is perfect for starting into a market but considering places like Cluj and Helsinki will have to relay on a huge number of transfers i think you are right they have lots of room to build passenger numbers going forward.
DeleteI meant all European routes in general. Flew LHR-BEG a few times this year...it was packed, mostly transfers...UK well unserved.
DeleteIndeed. Well JU are, after all, in the transfers game. I can imagine the O+D between Belgrade and Cluj is next to nil, so drumming up healthy transfers will be key. Interesting times. Menorca is of course a solid choice. One only needs to look at the most popular destinations for general European tourism to see where growth will come in the future.
Deletetex if they tripple LCA and fly A320 theyll still be packed year round...
DeleteThey increased LCA to 15 next summer, Friday flight was added
DeleteJust amazing! JUs network in Europe has become quite impressive. 9 destinations in Spain, wowww!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to JU
So MIA here we come. Good decision....Now they`ll probably gonna load up summer schedule for CAN as well, with 1 pw , rerouting another aircraft for MIA....Menorca is surprise, not sure there is gonna be enough demand since its quite small and not that known island in this region, but I highly recommend it, especially for the ones who like tranquil vacation ( no beaches though, but similar shore like Croatia, rocky)......Helsinki is finally back, hopefully to stay
ReplyDeleteI think Menorca has more chance of working long term than CLJ, but we live to be surprised and wish them all the best. All connectivity is positive.
DeleteMenorca 2pw is sustainable for summer seasonal.
DeleteDo you guys think Seville stands a chance of working in the long term? Maybe it could be swapped for Bilbao?
DeleteWhy wouldn't it? Although I'm not sure if Seville is winter seasonal or year round.
DeleteI don't have any reason to think it wont work...Many of these routes generate demand from inqusative tourists. If they price correctly there is no reason at all why Seville or Tenerife don't be very sucessful. Routes such as Helsinki and Chisinau which will be transfer driven are probably more challenging in the long run. But i'm sure they'll know to price routes like HEL-BEG-ATH/IST right to get bums on seats.
Delete@20:24 winter seasonal i think. If they think they can make more money elsewhere routes should be dropped, thats good business. But trying the market is also good. So so far very very solid growth from the airline.. If only we could buy shares in it...
DeleteI believe it’s winter seasonal. I wonder if any SVQ pax uses BEG to connect, but maybe IST takes most of that pax from JU. Hopefully they will open Bilbao too.
Delete@20:14 - At this point their network is large enough for virtually everything to work.
DeleteHow could be winter seasonal when it started in summer timetable??
DeleteIdemo dalje...
ReplyDeleteBravo Air Serbia 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
ReplyDeleteOK, I updated my catalogue:
ReplyDeleteIasi, plovdiv, manchester, glasgow, dublin, riga, talinn, vilinius, trieste, genoa, turin, marseille, lyon, nantes, kosice, wroclaw, gdansk, bremen, bilbao, ibiza. Plus tel aviv, cairo, tashkent, amman, beirut, la, tokyo, seoul, singapore, bangkok
hahah. Enjoy
Delete2035: SYD nonstop ex BEG 🥳
DeleteLol, yeah right
DeleteI'm a JU hater but I gotta accept it... this is good stuff. I really like that instead of abandoning Ibiza they still found a nice alternative. Been to both and prefer Menorca far more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honesty
DeleteDont ever be a hater. These are just airlines for christ sake.
DeleteNext year than the big party 🥳
ReplyDeleteJU 99 or 100 destinations?
JU 5 mio pax
BEG 10 mio pax
I think it will be more (for BEG).
DeleteI think we will see a couple new destinations for JU by summer 2027.
Delete100 is already a big achievement. I would never have expected this 10-15 years ago.
DeleteAnd first 100 years of JU
DeleteI'm disappointed because there's no Tashkent, France, Bilbao, or Africa.
ReplyDeleteTashkent is quite long, they can serve it with FlyOne if they establish a codeshare.
DeleteAfrica is definitely missing (North and Central), same as Middle-East.
That is why despite being great this is still a relatively conservative expansion.
Oh get over it. Step by step.
DeleteI was expecting CAI to finally return tbh.
DeleteCairo was and it perfect overnight destination. To keep A319/A220 busy 24/7. No brainer
DeleteNot really. It never was able to connect to the full network in the midnight wave.
DeleteIf JU would make some kind of agreement with V.Ships, OJCrew and Sea Chefs they could be a great carrier for cruise ships' crew to Miami as Miami Port is one of the biggest ports in the world and JU could transfer crew from Miami to Balkans (YU, Greece and Turkey without any problems).
ReplyDeleteBut me, as a ship crew for the last 15 years, do not remember more than 2-3 times that I flew to/from BEG on JU (and I fly at least 4 times per year to/from ship)
Shipping companies tend to use the easiest route irrespective of cost. Which means daily flights etc. but its a nice idea.
DeleteSurely there will be some cruise ships connection, but I think Russian diaspora will be golden goose for this route.
DeleteI hope until 2030 Bilbao and Ibiza will have flight with BEG
ReplyDeleteI hope for many things
DeleteLet's hope they will surprise us with something more during the year.
ReplyDeleteSo no frequency increase?
ReplyDeleteIm sure that will come also with time. Be patient
