Air Serbia is expected to unveil its network expansion plans for 2027 this week, with the carrier anticipated to announce several new routes, including one long-haul service. The upcoming announcement will provide an insight into the airline's growth strategy for next year, which will be marked by the specialised EXPO 2027 exhibition in Belgrade and the centenary of aviation in the country. The expansion will come against the backdrop of persistently high fuel prices and rising operating costs across the aviation industry. Air Serbia has already scheduled some frequency increases across its existing network for next year, although these are yet to be fully finalised at this early stage.
Air Serbia's CEO, Jiri Marek, has already confirmed that a new intercontinental destination is planned for next year, although the airline has yet to disclose which market it will serve. "What I can reveal is that there will be a new long-haul route, but I will not yet reveal which one", Mr Marek said last month. The carrier has previously identified a destination in China, Miami and a potential winter leisure route among its long-haul opportunities. On its medium-haul network, Air Serbia has confirmed plans to introduce flights to Yerevan, which would become its third destination in the Caucasus region after Tbilisi and Baku. The airline has also identified opportunities in Central Asia, including Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, although the relatively lengthy flying times have been highlighted as a challenge when compared to shorter European routes, where aircraft can perform multiple rotations per day. Air Serbia has additionally pointed to opportunities for further expansion in Southeast Europe, particularly in markets such as Bulgaria and Romania.
This year, Air Serbia is adding twelve routes to its network, representing its largest expansion since 2023. The airline has also made a noticeable effort to reduce the seasonality of its operations by introducing destinations outside the traditional peak summer travel period. These include Tenerife in Spain and Tromso in northern Norway, which are aimed at capturing leisure demand during the autumn and winter months. The strategy is intended to support more balanced aircraft utilisation throughout the year, while reducing the carrier's reliance on the peak summer season. The airline has also demonstrated its willingness to adjust its network in response to changing market conditions, including the introduction of new services from Niš to Vienna and Malta following Ryanair's withdrawal from both routes.
Number of routes introduced between 2019 and 2026
Based on its preliminary schedule filings, Air Serbia has so far planned between approximately 1.000 and 1.244 weekly flights during the 2027 summer season, from April until the end of September, depending on the month. This represents an increase of between eighteen and 136 weekly flights compared to the corresponding months this year, with the strongest growth currently scheduled for April. All routes operated during the same period in 2026 have been retained in next year's preliminary schedule, with the exception of Guangzhou, which is currently filed until March 26, and the seasonal summer service to Gothenburg. However, further changes to the schedule are highly likely at this early stage, particularly following the announcement of new destinations.
The airline's expansion plans for 2027 will also be shaped by EXPO 2027, which will take place in Belgrade from May 15 until August 15. As the exhibition's official airline partner, Air Serbia expects to benefit from increased inbound travel demand and has previously indicated that it is considering dedicated charter operations for specific markets. The carrier has estimated that the event could generate approximately half a million additional air passengers.

Burgas as summer route

Looking forward to it. I'm wondering what else is left to add in Europe

DeleteI think you are missing few destinations...
Delete🤣🤣🤣
DeleteAddis Ababa
DeleteMain top airports due pax numbers are Dublin, Manchester and Helsinki. They are missing and just matter of time.
Delete09:37 I think you cry all this years reading new destinations fot AS. And toy will cry more and more hahahahah
Delete@09:33 why dont you add a few more there cowboy.
DeleteWaiting for you, cowgirl
Delete10:12
Deleteyou totally, but totally missed the point.
I was laughing how sarcastic 09:35 was...and you did not catch it.
Could Hong Kong replace Guangzhou?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly
DeleteIt should.
DeleteAlso Shenzhen is needed as direct route.
DeleteShenzhen is practically a suburb of Hong Kong. Even a metro line from Hong Kong goes through Shenzhen.
DeleteYes, but most valuable cargo is at HKG.
DeleteCAN can still operate during winter, why would they cancel the route
DeleteReplacing new route is not the same as adding new route...If that case, that would be just switching from one to another....Btw, why would they cancel CAN? as I recall well, many commentators here said that that route full all the time, and LF is high...so what happened?
DeletePerhaps high oil prices, competition and a 30% reduction in Chinese visitors to Serbia in 2026 might have something to do with it. Then again if you actually know something about aviation you would know that load factors are not a determining factor in a route's success. But if they do replace Guangzhou look at it in a positive way. It will be something you can cling onto in a generally grim day for you. So at least it won't be a complete disaster for you.
DeleteWhat?
DeleteYou got a very clear answer why it may be replaced with three reasons in fact. Sorry you got left speechless.
DeleteAnd you really think that they’re considering canceling CAN just after JU/CZ codeshare
DeleteDestination in Bulgaria?! Probably Burgas, doubt Plovdiv
ReplyDeleteAlso Eurovision will be in Burgas next May. This could generate prolonged demand during the whole summer. I bet on Burgas as well but I am more courious of Romania. Iasi could be very attractive for Serbs doing St. Petka (Paraschevi) pilgramige.
DeleteYou say that every time.
DeleteIsn't Eurovision in May?
DeleteIt is.
DeleteEurovision may accomodate up to 1000-2000 fans. I suspect they have larger hall than this
Delete@13:08, ^ come again?
DeleteI must mention that an acquaintance in Tashkent where I was the week before last mentioned that maybe Air Serbia is considering taking flights from Belgrade to Tashkent. Let‘s See. Yerevan would also be a hit.
ReplyDeleteBut they will also have competition to Yerevan since FlyOne is starting it.
DeleteI think they will be able to compete again FlyOne.
DeleteWhat are Fly One's fares like?
DeleteQuite pricey but they are very well known in Russia and Armenia
DeleteJU has a more competitive offering compared to FlyOne. Once JU starts EVN it is questionable as to how long they'll remain on the route.
DeleteCluj, Ibiza, Miami, Warshaw, Dublin
ReplyDeleteNo chance for Dublin
DeleteWhy not Dublin?
DeleteHighly limited O+D traffic. Plus the airport is highly congested. Would be a total disaster for JU.
DeleteWAW is more unlikely than DUB. LOT with practically double daily would be difficult to compete with. Plus LOT directly serves most if not all of JU's potential transit demand. Secondary Polish cities would make more sense.
DeleteDUB on the other hand would be easier for JU considering the network via BEG to our part of Europe, especially in the summer.
DUB is linked to Croatia, Romania and Albania already directly. I dont see JU in Dublin anytime soon. Would be exotic but highly unlikely.
DeleteThe network is decent but there are holes in that network where JU could jump in.
DeleteWhy is Dublin more attractive for Albania than Serbia, it's the same visa policy?
DeleteBecause Irish tourists are visiting Albania for tourism.
DeleteKalamata
ReplyDeleteOr Kavala
DeleteTried that.
DeleteKavala is already charter route.
DeleteExcept Kalamata they could try different greek routes like Patras, Kefalonia, Kos or Preveza.
DeleteKefalonia and Zakinthos would likely be good candidates to become seasonal routes instead of charters.
DeleteExYU must know all of the routes for sure and is trying to hint us as much as he can :)
ReplyDeleteYerevan, Helsinki, Gdansk and Miami
ReplyDeleteCould Bilbao be one, since there has been a lot of talk about it lately?
ReplyDeleteIf they are further expanding in Spain, I think it is a real possibility.
DeleteAny chance they will announce it today?
ReplyDeleteIt would make sense, no pointing doing it by the end of the week when everyone will only think about the elections
DeleteProbably atticle will be updated during the day.
DeleteWell they are announcing it this week because of election. So Friday, or even Saturday are on table.
DeleteDid they do it also all previous years because of elections?
DeleteNonsense.
Yes, someone will vote for someone because Air Serbia announces flights to some Bulgarian or Romanian town.
Deletehahahaha, good one!
Delete🤣
What I meant, anon 9.27, is they will want to build awareness around new routes and start sales successfully. That's why they would want to push it further away from the elections when people's minds are not occupied with whatever is going to happen over the weekend.
DeleteHowever, Cluj fans might change their mind if JU announces 😂😂😂
Cluj fan is hilarious. I actually hope they get their wish lol.
DeleteWell if Air Serbia didn’t hold talks with Cluj airport some time ago, I’m sure that no one would even fantasize about it
Delete'Hold talks' so silly. Its not international diplomacy you know.
DeleteWell , it's easy when you are a government owned airline and you don't have to answer to any EU commission ..
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth are you on about? Other airlines that answer to the EU commission don't expand? Get your head checked, the hatred will eat you alive.
DeleteIt’s eating him as we write here
DeleteNothing is easy. It's just hard work and competent management. Two things that some other regional airlines lack.
Delete...and they are too Government owned.
DeleteMaybe something new from INI too.
ReplyDeleteWait until announced ones starts and prove sustainable.
DeleteNo way...
DeleteMiami and they’ll launch it in time for the new consulate’s inauguration.
ReplyDeleteAnd when is that supposed to be?
DeleteMid next year.
DeleteCorrespodns with Expo
DeleteSeptember will finally be here... running a bit late, but arriving nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteand 2 weeks late didn't impact your life in any way.
DeleteKind of wrong PR strategy to have new routes announced during elections week, the media will not pay attention
DeleteThe serbian media is essentially state run nowadays.
DeleteMaribor for sure
ReplyDeleteIs it even open?
DeleteМинск?)))
ReplyDelete+1000
DeleteGiven that CAN is currently filed in the preliminary schedule only until March 26, replacing this route with HKG seems like a highly logical and economically justified move for 2027. Splitting the market with a total of 4 weekly flights (2 by CZ and 2 by JU) has proven to be too big of a challenge for JU. CZ offers a far superior hard product and incomparable connectivity through its mega-hub, which effectively forced JU to capitulate and reduce frequencies to just one weekly flight during the peak summer season. The line was practically bleeding, completely losing its appeal for business and premium passengers.
ReplyDeleteBeyond the passenger segment, the cargo factor plays a critical role in the sustainability of the wide-body fleet. While LH Group manages to scoop up tens of tons of high-yield cargo directly from HKG every week for the Balkan and Central European markets via its hubs, JU remains utterly uncompetitive with its reduced capacity out of CAN, failing to properly utilize its belly space. By launching HKG instead of CAN, JU would step out of CZ’s direct line of fire, offer a unique direct link from BEG, and tap into those lucrative cargo and premium streams right at the source. This would be a much smarter and more profitable pivot for their long-haul network.
Or drop it for Miami
DeleteOr do both, swap CAN for HKG and start MIA, they have the needed capacity
DeleteOr both
DeleteI would say the biggest problem for JU would be:
Delete- 2 weekly frequencies compared to its competition (TK, QR, EY, EK/FZ) offering multiple daily connections.
- Difficulty in attaining additional frequencies.
- Chinese carriers aggressively undercutting fares.
- the delay in getting the CZ codeshare approved.
- JU's network incompatible for meaningful connections.
- inability to take on meaningful amounts of cargo due to limitations with the A330, especially when the flight is full with pax.
- JU's little investment into product and marketing.
- time needed to adjust onboard offering ie second hot meal service.
HKG might be a better alternative due to a lack of direct competition however it is questionable as to how much better the route would perform compared to CAN without:
- meaningful codeshares via HKG.
- adjustments to onboard product.
- investment to their fleet.
+1 cant see it working. I think they will cut CAN and add Miami.
DeleteDo you all understand that opening MIA has nothing to do with CAN, since they have plenty of aircraft available that are wasting big money for now sitting on tarmac...HKG has a huge competition all across Europe , CAN doesn`t , also Air Serbia had interline agreement with China Southern on many routes so far, so interpretation that JU was stuck alone in CAN doesn`t stand...They also finally got code share with CZ, so now they can directly sell vast network of CZ connections throughout Australia, South - East Asia, East Asia... Also, HKG is much more expensive airport, and for onward connections as well. JU so far failed in sofr product, because they kept sending broken YU ARC, just in the last quarter cabin of that aircraft has been fixed..Also they finally improved service onboard, but took them to long, for frequent pax on that route figuring out that CZ offers much better product...Also I didn`t find crew to be nice towards Chinese pax, and I was writing about that...Also where JU failed the most so far is advertising CAN as great connection for Southeast Asian and Australian destinations, since they did have interline...Nevertheless, those all things can be improved, and some of them are being improved, so I think that CAN is still better option than Hong Kong...its much cheaper as well...
Deletebesides above written, I forgot to mention that majority of Chinese diaspora in Serbia and surrounding countries comes from Canton province, and not from Hong Kong, and that Chinese from mainland China need permission to go to Hong Kong, so we can figure out which airport would majority of Chinese use to fly to Belgrade, CAN or HKG....Also, in JU has code share in CAN now, and what about HKG? No, so they would need to spend another 2-3 years to find someone, if the find...
DeleteIt isn't without reason why foreign airlines prefer HKG over Chinese airports despite the higher fees. One in particular is that CX isn't dumping fares. Market dynamics is also different.
DeleteInterline with CZ was almost non existent. It was extremely difficult to book flights with JU/CZ connections despite decent connections via CAN, including on JU's own website. Nothing to advertise if it didn't really exist.
YU-ARC no longer is as bad as it was however tape and inop stickers seem to be a JU favourite rather than just fixing the problem. This isn't exclusive to the A330 fleet.
JU seems to be lacking in adequate service training for its crew, with emphasis on cultural differences. The fact that JU insists on chopsticks while the catering offer isn't entirely suitable for it suggest that they themselves don't recognise that they have a shortfall.
Would be nice if they could also announce the timeline for Intesa & Alta credit card introduction that were supposed to launch in October, and we're already in the 2nd half of the month with no info in sight about it.
ReplyDelete“By the end of October, we hope to introduce dynamic awards, which will enable passengers to use their points online when purchasing tickets and other services. We are also preparing a family programme, allowing an entire family to use a single loyalty account. Another feature we are working on is a favourite destination option, where each member will be able to select their preferred destination and earn additional points when travelling there. We also expect to launch partnerships with Banca Intesa and Alta Banka in November or December for co-branded payment cards. These will allow members to earn points through everyday purchases, which can then be redeemed for airline tickets”.
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2026/08/air-serbia-to-reveal-2027-expansion.html
It's smart to wait for the end of October for this matter.
Delete@11:15 so they're back to JAT-style promises, such a bummer. I remember reading in May when Elevate was announced they'll have cobranded credit cards in October, and now the deadline slips into December. Wonderful. How hard is it to launch a damn cobranded credit card product?
DeleteThe quote above was published months ago. You just didn't read it. And will your life change because a cobranded card launches in November or Decembet instead of September or October?
Delete@13:56 most people don't give a damn about that.
DeleteIs it true that flights from Brač begin as early as the start of May—on Tuesdays and Saturdays—since there are no flights to Split on those days? In this way, they offer nearly daily flights to Split and the surrounding area, and then, starting in June, the frequency increases to three flights per week, continuing until the beginning of October
ReplyDeleteWhat about frequency to Split in peak summer?
Delete
DeleteI don't think there's a need for that at the moment, as capacity for Split is generally reduced—much like this season; although the flights were supposed to be operated by the A320, they were mostly flown by smaller aircraft, such as the A319 and A220-300.
For the upcoming season, the A319 is currently scheduled for all flights.
Hong Kong, Yervan, Graz (Maribor), and Cluj

ReplyDeleteIs it possible that another route or two might be added in December?
That would be a bit short notice
DeleteIt isn't something we haven't already seen. This summer we had MUC and BWK added with short notice.
DeleteSummer being the caviat
DeleteIST and ZAG are examples of last minute winter additions.
DeleteLast October they announced 6 new routes for 2026. We ended up with 12.
DeleteSo then for sure they will now!

ReplyDeletePozdrav iz Sidneja.
I doubt it. Would you want to fly 24h on their a330 just from 'patriot' reasons?
DeleteMiami, Ibiza, one route in Romania, possibly another destination in Spain.
ReplyDeleteIdemo dalje...
ReplyDeleteWanna do something crazy and open up Damascus, hear me out no European airlines fly there and Aegean just announced flights to Damascus from Athens. JU can be a real pioneer.
ReplyDeleteThat actually is a very meaningful idea.
DeleteSuper-niche, in demand and quite doable for ASL.
Who flies (from) there? At least for Serbia it's no tourism, no business, no diaspora... Weird proposal.
DeleteDANAir flies there right?
Delete@14:00 Although a degree of O+D is very needed, on a route such as that they would be looking to connect Syrians in Western Europe with Damascus. Personally I don't think they would. If they wanted to do something out of the box they could launch HLLM...now that would be fun.
DeleteThat's something Aegean points, connecting Syrians in Europe they start DAM from December with an impressive 4 weekly frequency. I don't think DanAir is a competitor tho. A3 and TK will make some money out of this.
