airBaltic commenced a new seasonal winter service between Ljubljana and Tenerife last Friday, marking its third route out of the Slovenian capital. The airline will maintain a weekly service between the two until March 19 with its Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
Commenting on the new service, Mantas Vrubliauskas, Vice President of Network Management at airBaltic, said, “With the introduction of direct flights between Ljubljana and Tenerife, we are expanding our network from Slovenia and complementing our existing services to Riga and Gran Canaria. The new route will make it easier for passengers to plan a winter getaway to one of the most popular sunshine destinations. Flights will operate at convenient times using our modern Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which we are also equipping with complimentary Starlink internet access”.
The CEO of Ljubljana Airport, Jurgen Deischl, noted, “We are delighted that airBaltic is continuing to expand its presence at Ljubljana Airport, further strengthening our successful partnership with the introduction of a third destination. Tenerife adds to the growing range of direct leisure destinations available from Ljubljana and responds to strong passenger demand for attractive year-round travel options. Working closely with airlines and tourism stakeholders, and through targeted incentive programmes, including nationally supported initiatives, we remain committed to developing a diverse and resilient route network that enhances Slovenia’s international accessibility and competitiveness. Our ambition is clear: to establish Ljubljana Airport as the airport of choice in the region, offering passengers excellent connectivity, a wide choice of destinations and a seamless travel experience”.

It's interesting how they reposition aircraft to the bases, they did RIX-LJU-TFS scheduled flight on Friday and RIX-LJU-LPA flight on Saturday. Same will happen in march where scheduled flights will be LPA-LJU-RIX all scheduled
ReplyDeletewell it is quite a long dostance to fly one direction empty since this route will be 99% used by Slovenians
DeleteGreat! To a lot of successful operation! Also, the first flight from LTN is landing in LJU as we speak :).
ReplyDeleteNice! I wonder what happened with the rumours about the Stockholm and Tirana routes. I hope we get a few more surprises for the next summer.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd, the tender has closed 2 months ago and still no official word, which could be a sign the airlines sent over additional documentation at the request of the ministry
DeleteStockholm is coming
DeleteWhat about Tirana? Is it ditched?
Delete@11.57 Which airline is proposed to operate ARN?
DeleteTirana like evrything else is just people guessing here in the comments
Deleteits not "people " its literally one guy
DeleteCould be Norwegian, they haven't put out the press for their whole summer schedule, but announced Valecnia expansion for example
DeleteWe are still waiting for the tender results… Could they at least announce who applied and that the applications are not eligible if it actually failed.
ReplyDeleteThis new route won't contribute much to the overall pax numbers, but it is a great step in diversifying the portfolio of Ljubljana airport. Tenerife is a great destination overall, and if it was operated by an LCC, it would work during the summer as well for sure.
ReplyDeleteI am interested to see what kind of growth LJU will be able to achieve next summer. Meanwhile there is some increases planned (United to EWR, easyJet to BER and LTN, TUI to DUS and BRU, more flights to BCN ...), there are also gonna be some decreases, for example Transavia ending ORY operations and Lufthansa group substantially decreasing it's ops. I would assume LJU will be able to achieve nice growth, but not as high as it was this year. It will probably be around 5 - 10 %. It will be real close to reaching 2 mio pax next year, but it is not guaranteed.
most ExYu airports will have a similar story
Delete@admin is LTN suspended for July and August 2027?
DeleteMost likely not, they will revise their summer schedule at a later date. It doesn't make sense that it would operate 4x weekly in the winter and zero times per week at the peak summer, when their LGW LF is upwards from 95 %.
DeleteExcellent destinations for LJU. And it's great they are operated by BT and the best narrowbody aircraft on the market.
ReplyDeleteBravo Fraport!
