Macedonia and Montenegro are working towards the introduction of nonstop flights between Skopje and Podgorica, with an agreement expected to be signed shortly. Macedonia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, said the matter was discussed during his recent official visit to Montenegro, where he met with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and senior government officials. "We also discussed air connectivity, and I expect an agreement to be signed very soon that will enable nonstop flights between Skopje and Podgorica", Mr Nikoloski said. He noted that the service would support tourism, business ties and closer cooperation between the two countries. The Montenegrin government also confirmed discussions on establishing air links between Skopje and both Podgorica and Tivat. However, no airline, launch date or planned frequencies have been disclosed.
The proposed service would restore nonstop connectivity between the two capitals. Montenegro Airlines previously operated flights between Skopje and Podgorica, having launched the route in June 2009. In 2010, the carrier maintained four weekly services, offering passengers onward connections through Podgorica to several European destinations. The route was suddenly discontinued in 2011 with immediate effect without prior warning after it was revealed the carrier owed Skopje Airport tens of thousands of euros.
TAV Macedonia, the operator of Skopje and Ohrid airports, is taking part at the Routes World conference in Frankfurt, which is currently taking place. It is being represented by Vladimir Gramatikov, TAV Macedonia Marketing and Revenue Director.

Will this be the shortest Wizz flight in their network?
ReplyDeleteI think BUD-TGM and BTS-Kosice are shorter
Deletedont think that Wizzair is considering this, its Air Montenegro if at all
DeleteIt will be Air Montenegro. Wizz cant fill 239 seats to TGD.
DeleteWizz can fill anything they want in summer from SKP, its just the distance that may be too short
DeleteWizz shortest route is Tirana - Bari 249km
Deleteslovakias domestic route must be shorter they briefly had Tirana -Brindisi
Delete@14:10 well that is not completely true now is it. I cannot see this as a viable route even with money pumped in by the North Macedonian or Montenegrin governments.
Delete@15:18 this exists due to the route having been made a PSO and it operates with maximum prices that Wizzair can charge 75euros i think. Its a travesty of a route that environmentalists in Slovakia dislike.
DeleteIt's a great route
DeleteNot for the environment it aint. Nor the Slovak tax payer, which i assume you are not.
Delete@15.10 same wass said for SKP-LJU
DeleteOffer return tickets for 60-80€ and you will see, at least May-Sept
well he says he can´t see a viable route there. I am thinking he has some sort of a crytal ball
DeleteIt would be good to connect with Sarajevo and Podgorica all together, I love Sarajevo but the road trip is exhausting...
ReplyDeleteWould be better if roads were improved and border crossings made easier and faster. But that kind of stuff is too much like hard work.
DeleteSkopje - Tivat seasonal will be perferct, the rest is just politics
ReplyDeleteMore sense is Skopje - Tivat than Podgorica , people are going on the sea not in Podgorica , but anyway will be better and shorter than travelling with car and crossing 3 borders
Delete@17:08 you mean economics..
