Wizz Air has made further changes to its network, affecting its Belgrade base. The low cost carrier has discontinued its seasonal winter service between Belgrade and Grenoble, which launched in January. The route operated once a week until late March and will not return for a second season. As a result, the carrier now maintains two routes from Belgrade to France, serving Beauvais and Nice.
The carrier has also discontinued services between Belgrade and Madrid, having initially suspended flights only for the winter. It has now removed flights for the coming summer as well. Wizz Air launched the route between the two capitals on October 28 last year, competing directly with Air Serbia. During the January - September period, Wizz Air carried 50.520 passengers on the route, achieving an average cabin load factor of 90.3% over the first three quarters of the year.
As previously reported, Eindhoven Airport will be temporarily closed to all flights from February 1 to July 19 next year for major runway renovations and infrastructure upgrades. This will result in the suspension of Wizz Air’s services from Belgrade to the Dutch city throughout the closure. While the airline will introduce flights to Maastricht from select cities as an alternative, no such service is currently planned from Belgrade.
During the 2026/27 winter season, which runs from October 25, 2026 to March 27, 2027, Wizz Air currently has 712.634 seats scheduled across 3.002 flights to and from Belgrade. The airline will operate 720 fewer flights and offer 175.700 fewer seats than during the previous winter, representing a 19.8% decrease in available capacity.

It is time for them to open a new route that JU already flies.
ReplyDeleteThat comment just has no meaning.
DeleteThat’s their modus operandi. I expect Las Palmas next
DeleteYou know JU terminated more destinations this winter than W6 did?
DeleteThey haven't actually. I have no issue with Wizz but there is really no need to make things up.
Delete@15:42
DeleteDo you know how many new routes JU has opened and how many new passengers it has transported?
Do you happen to know if JU is terminating CAN route?
DeleteNo. Why not just read the article from a few days ago?
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2026/11/air-serbia-ceo-outlines-miami-toronto.html
Wizz reduces choice for Belgrade passengers
ReplyDeleteThey are free to do what ever they wish. Thats how things work.
DeleteAll summer long you’ve been whining about how you actually want to remain in the Serbian market, how you’re concerned about Belgrade’s connectivity with Europe, and how you care about your workers, yet in the end, you go and slash your frequencies and routes. Stay toxic. 💅🏻
DeletePoor Serbian employees. Evil DCV and evil JU are the culprit of their misery!
DeleteYou da toxic one in that process
DeleteIt's called being a business. Communism died years ago
DeleteWell businesses abide by laws and pay taxes where they operate. Wizz wants the two of both worlds.
DeleteBeing in a business means using same preferences as the others. Otherwise you want communism
DeleteThe wizzair haters will be happy indeed. But once weekly was always a bit akward.
ReplyDeleteThe 20% cut in capacity is the bigger issue.
DeleteOne weekly for a Grenoble, highly limited seasonal winter route - that was fine frequency.
DeleteAs next comment says, bigger issue is Madrid and 20% cut
Well, that’s selective perception. No one even mentions Eindhoven, or why they don’t fly into Maastricht as an alternative airport.
DeleteMaybe because nobody wants to actually go there..Belgrade is linked to Amsterdam up to three times daily, not Wizzair's fault Eindhoven is being renovated.
DeleteJU should reconsider Lyon again
DeleteCorrect. The E190 to start with.
DeleteJU withdrew from Lyon when there was only 2pw to Geneva by EasyJet. Now they both fly there 4pw, and bus is only 2 hours. I would love them to return, but I don’t see it happening until battle for Geneva resolves.
DeleteUh-oh, we read so many times about 20% growth, not 20% decline. Who’s lying here?
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteYes they had 20% growth earlier this year, what don't you understand? You know JU also discontinued routes this winter?
DeleteJU has 20% growth this winter.
DeleteI think the main difference is how Wizz made a song and dance all summer how important Belgrade is for them and how much they want to grow from Belgrade
DeleteSo you are saying they will not grow? Imagine the cuts they'd have to make if their base was shut. Like this we lost what, 4 weekly frequencies in total
DeleteIt's not 4 weekly frequencies. I suggest you actually read the article. Or read the last paragraph at least.
DeleteWhy? Facts are not important today, especially given your comments on W6
Delete^ because it's not a fact. They didn't cut 4 weekly flights. They cut significantly more.
DeleteActually, they're withdrawing one plane, remaining to three in total. And that's siginificant cuts to such an "important" market for W6. They were actually lying all the time, like some of us was pointing. They also cut big at BEG when there were PW engine crisis, but grew in other markets. Meaning BEG is NOT important for them and they don't give anything for Serbian employees, BEG connectivity or fair passengers choices. They care are only about their profit and their bots should stop spreading nonsenses.
DeleteOf course that’s the case. We’ve seen exactly how they react when a major global crisis hits. Yet, people here continue to live in "la-la land," believing that W6 is a company that actually cares about the local population, its workers, and so on.
Delete+100
DeleteJU won in madrid
ReplyDelete'Won', what world views some people have. Its vaguely comic
Delete^ you would have written Wizz won had JU withdrawn from the route. We know.
Delete^ Not me. Maybe some saddos who see things like that.
DeletePeople didn't write that but you see that he's busy writing the same comments this morning
DeleteWell, it is a competition between airlines operating on the same route, isnt it?
DeleteYes it is and W6 probably carried more passengers than JU?
DeleteJU won with 6pw, and W6 failed miserably. Same old story for irrelevant and unuseful airline
DeleteCan you see who won in the end? If everything is so wonderful at W6, why aren't they flying to Madrid yet?
DeleteNow we'll maybe see JU A330 to Madrid lol.
DeleteHopefully one day FR will jump into that market and show everyone how making money is done. The Wizz haters and FR haters will coalesce with rapidity.
DeleteWe can already see how JU makes money and it’s proven.
DeleteIndeed. And i hope FR come to make some too.
Delete@09:05
DeleteBut is losing in Gothenburg and Hamburg. They're trying so hard to keep these two routes alive.
^ thank goodness you have the data. They send it to you daily.
DeleteFR would be here a long time ago. Just there’s one big problem: Air Serbia…
DeleteIt wouldn't. They have publicly said the fees at BEG are too high. That 'problem' connects you to over 100 destinations nonstop. Destinations you could only dream of with Wizz Air and Ryanair.
DeleteDid Wizz fail in its attempt to strong-arm the airports into cutting fees even further so they could fly almost for free?
ReplyDeleteAt least JU is in Madrid and now that it doesn't face any other airline serving that route...
ReplyDeleteWhich is great for customers right, really great.
DeleteWill get expensive
DeleteOf course. At least they aren’t flying with someone who’s constantly opening and closing routes.
DeleteYou are saying JU didn't discontinue any routes?
DeleteJU has also cut routes. But on the other hand, look at their growth. How many additional aircraft has JU based, and how many new routes have they opened in the last 3 years? Meanwhile, W6 is still hovering around with 3–4 aircraft.
DeleteAnon@9:54 Comparing number of aircraft is not good for JU. It’s crazy how W6 manages to compete with 30-40 aircraft JU by only having 4 aircraft.
DeleteWell, yes, they should be flying to OTP, SOF, SKG, TIA, SKP, etc., with the A321neo about twice a day!
DeleteThe anti-wizz types are really quite poisonous in their views. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteYes, the only correct opinion is your opinion and all comments should be the way you think. Otherwise any opinion different to yours is poisonous and hilarious.
DeleteNo, the correct opinion is not to be a hater. Which a lot of you are out of some weird logic.
DeleteIt's literally the same guy over and over again. The fact W6 flew with 90% LF shows how loved they are in Serbia.
DeleteExactly. There is oke very sad wizz hater. Most of us love aviation in ALL forms and dont see things in the way of 'fighting' .
DeleteW6 is not everywhere over 90% LF. If so, then why would you close Madrid? Or Grenoble?
DeleteWizz could launch a route to Prague. JU says they are doing well there.
ReplyDeleteOr Bucharest, Sofia, Budapest. All routes growing, time to step in
DeleteWhy not Cluj or Kisinjev
Delete^ Comedy?
DeleteWizz Air is cutting all around their network so BEG was rather spares which is good. People love to fly with them and the LF to MAD shows us that. Hopefully they are back once the economic climate improves
ReplyDeleteExactly!!
DeleteI don't understand why you think people love to fly with Wizz just because the LF is high. People love to fly cheap, Wizz is just means to an end. Ryanair has high LF and people positively hate them, they just endure the experience for the sake of low fares.
DeleteWizz is a business looking to make profit, it will do what is best for them. It's very simple
Delete09:29 How much did W6 cut from Tirana, for example?
Delete@10:28 all airlines are a 'means to an end', and the comfort of a wizzair or Ryanair flight is (for almost all passengers) no different to other airlines in Europe.
DeletePoint is that LCC can NOT be cheap any more, regarding fuel prices, taxes and inflation whatsoever. Companies and passengers should realize that eventually
Delete^ meaning what exactly?
DeletePity about MAD. I was pretty sure this route would be solidified considering they just opened a base in Madrid a couple of days ago.
ReplyDeleteRoutes come, routes go. It'll be back one day with them or another airline. Lets be under to illusion that the aviation market of 2026 and 2036 will be anyway the same.
DeleteJU already operates MAD from BEG. It would make sense for W6 to launch MAD-SJJ, though. No competition there.
DeleteThey'll be back
DeleteJust like they returned to Lisbon? Ah, no…
DeleteToo bad for skiers !
ReplyDeleteFuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Funchal Madeira, many interesting locations.
ReplyDeleteClassic Wizz Air.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the airline didn't even knew whether they would be able to have base operations at BEG this winter, I'm not surprised.
ReplyDeleteSure they cut MAD and frequencies all around because of evil DCV. Tralala stories
DeleteThey have cut their operations across Europe this winter.
DeleteIts time for some Spanish airline to step in. Maybe AirEuropa or Iberia
ReplyDeleteAirEurope do not fly to many places in Europe (despite its name) and if Iberia launches it the JU exclusives will whine, but it would be lovely yes.
DeleteSad to see Grenoble go, it was somewhat of a replacement for Lyon. But really, launching this route was more surprising than cancellation. It would be nice if JU brought Lyon back, but with the Geneva expansion I’m not holding my breath.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, hope LYS will come back, it’s both ski in winter and big Serbian diaspora in the Region
DeleteIs this 20% cut going to affect some Wizz employees at Belgrade base?
ReplyDeleteOh no. They “care” about their employees.
DeleteUltra low cost airline known for strict financial discipline will, as a token of appreciation for public support employees displayed in previous months, allow all employees to keep their jobs while 20% capacity is cut? Good one!
DeleteAnd Wizz is opening base in Madrid, they already start flying even domestic routes next week..To Palma, Bilbao, even Seville and Malaga until train network for Andalusia is sorted put..So 28 rputes across eEirope and Spain from Madrid, just for the beginning..And they are cutting BEG where they had LF over 90%...This company is juke, actually they just show how much they don' t care about Serbian market..and all those letters of support from our serbian pax means really nothing for them..Its time to introduce real LCC who will kick these loosers out..Until then, JU will skyrocket prices for Madrid, as they did for Lisbon recently..
ReplyDeleteLF could have been 100% and yields awful. Give it a rest.
Delete@15:01
DeleteThat signature collection was so cringe. It was just like when they collected signatures to get Kassandra set free.
And some people were fanboys for LCC against flag carrier…
