Osijek Airport to build aircraft maintenance centre

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Osijek Airport has announced the construction of a new maintenance, repair and overhaul centre. The project is valued at 2.9 million euros and will be built and financed by the Zagreb Traffic Institute, which recently expressed interest in purchasing a stake in Slovenia's maintenance company Adria Airways Tehnika. The aircraft maintenance centre will be able to service ATR, Embraer and Bombardier Dash aircraft. The first phase of the project includes the construction of a 1.200 square metre hangar, while the second phase foresees the construction of an additional hangar with the ability to handle Boeing 747 aircraft. "With this investment, we plan to employ some fifty to eighty people during the first phase and over 100 in subsequent phases", Boris Smrečki, the head of the Zagreb Traffic Institute said. "This will boost Osijek Airport's value, positioning itself in the region with a new service which is not overly common at airports. The hangar will be built near the old control tower as it is the only available vacant space", Osijek Airport's Managing Director, Domagoj Marinić, added. Construction of the hangar will begin soon and should be completed by the spring of 2016.
