NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia is negotiating the lease of an additional two Airbus A320 aircraft. This is in addition to the one A320 the carrier has already signed a Letter of Intent to lease and is due to arrive during the upcoming 2025/26 winter season, as recently reported. As EX-YU Aviation News learns that the latter will feature sharklets and has formerly been  operated by Wizz Air. As a result, the airline’s fleet of A320s is expected to grow to six.

    And the age? I hope it's not 15+ again

      I think one is from A3 so I doubt it will be younger than 15.

      The ex Wizz aircraft will probably be current HA-LW# aircraft. YU-APS was formerly registered HA-LWK. They are between 11 and 13 yo.

      From what I know two A320 are coming from Wizz Air and the third from Aegean.
      Aegean's A320s are a bit older than Wizz Air's since they didn't mind doing the D check.

      Am I right to assume that JU will have to pay for the two ex Wizz Airbuse's D-check?
      In this case I hope they get a real cheap lease rate for them.

      Well these planes are not owned by Wizz, they are just leasing them. It all depends what kind of deal JU makes with the lessor. Maybe JU will pay for it and in return get a nice big discount.

      Google tells me a D check for a 15 year old B733 goes as high as $1.5 million so my guess an A320 is up to $2 million. That's why airlines like Ryanair avoid doing it.

      @18:10

      That doesn't mean the aircraft never entered service. The aircraft isn't difficult to get into service, but JU doesn't seem entirely happy with how the previous leasee maintained the aircraft and are swapping parts. With YU-ATB having a problematic start, the aircraft tipped to be YU-ATA must of been similar or worse since JU gave up on the aircraft.

      The major issue is the aircraft lessors who do not allow airlines operating the aircraft they own to Russia.
      In case something happens to them getting parts to Russia to service them and fly them back out can take months.
      JU and other airlines are using aircraft that thy own outright for these flights.

      Quite smart how JU leases used aircrafts at affordable costs, rather than just go for expensive next generation aircrafts, where leasing is expensive or slots to get them is difficult. And by doing this, they are profitable and that's what counts. Bravo JU !

      That's what many carriers did in the past, just look at Aegean which started with old generations of B733 and B734 and then transitioned to new generation some 15 years later (A320neo and A321neo). There are many other examples.

      So they are going down a safe road which is good. JU fleet planning is doing a very good job.
