The majority of carriers serving Ljubljana recorded passenger during the first half of the year, with the German and Dutch markets seeing the largest increases following the entry of Eurowings and KLM. Swiss continued to expand strongly in Ljubljana, adding 7.190 passengers year-on-year and achieving an average cabin load factor of 75.8% over the six-month period. Air Serbia and Turkish Airlines also performed well, growing their passenger numbers by 9.3% and 1.9% respectively. The Turkish flag carrier registered an average cabin load factor of 74.8% on the Ljubljana route. airBaltic posted solid gains as well. Its average cabin occupancy stood at a high 84.7%.
Ljubljana Airport passenger performance on scheduled routes, H1 2025
During the first six months of the year, the UK market lost nearly 9.000 passengers, primarily due to British Airways’ absence over the winter period, as well as the lack of Wizz Air which operated flights between London and Ljubljana during the first two months of 2024. The French market also recorded a decline, driven by Air France’s frequency reductions on the Paris service. Luxair carried 1.171 fewer passengers, with an average load factor of 67.9%. GP Aviation’s figures almost halved after the carrier downgraded its service from year-round to seasonal; however, its average loads remained strong, exceeding 90%.
Wizz Air maintained exceptionally strong performance on its Skopje - Ljubljana service, achieving an average load factor of 93.8% between January and June, while continuing to grow its overall passenger numbers and capacity. Among other carriers, Brussels Airlines recorded an occupancy rate of 76.2%, Flydubai 66.1%, LOT Polish Airlines 73.6%, Finnair 73.2%, Norwegian Air Shuttle 73.3% and Aegean Airlines 79.3%.
I'm positively surprised by Air Baltic i did not expect it would be doing so well
ReplyDeleteExperts in this forum have been waiting for Air Baltic's demise for years now...
DeleteAir Air Baltic has a Q2 net profit of EUR 27.6 million from revenues of EUR 216.9 million.
DeleteA huge turnaround from last year!
I flew with them from LJU. The A220 is really nice and Riga aiport is IMO a great airport to transfer. Very modern and not to big. Really happy that they are doing well. I hope they will expand the service in the future.
DeleteFor the first 6 months they still made a net loss of 1,7 million, and it was this small only because of the higher value of the eur vs usd.
DeleteLH is supposed to acquire a 10% stake for €14 million. That tells you how much this airline is worth. Not to mention the bond of €380 million in 2024 they issued at 14.5%. How exactly are they gonna repay it if they r losing money as they obviously are?
They wanted to do an IPO to repay the debt, but postponed it to alledgedly 2026, and no wonder, who would like to buy their shares?
In summary, enjoy them while you can in LJU
Their core business model of being the transfer hub in the Baltics is obviously so successful that they have to lease out almost half of their fleet to LH group.
Delete@Anonymous09:21
DeleteThey are MAKING money and at a great profit margin as demonstrated in Q. Everyone is losing money on Q1.
The airline will be profitable for the year too as Q3 is expected to bring higher profits than Q2.
Seems like their turnaround strategy is working great.
*Q2
DeleteI still find it funny that in their reports, Air Baltic is reporting their passenger numbers by including all passengers handled on wet lease ops. So for flights they did not sell tickets for, just provided the plane. That's a new level of creative reporting.
DeleteBT is increasing flying to its core network by 5% and ACMI by 20%.
DeleteSeems to me they can do both and be profitable.
https://www.laranews.net/airbaltic-reports-strong-first-half-of-2025/
Well, good luck to them and the turnaround story. As, again, till 2029 they will have to repay €435 million for the bond and cover the €118 million in net loss they made in 2024
DeleteAnon 09:58
DeleteWith a Q2 profit margin of 12.7% they'll be more than fine by 2030. Don't worry too much about them.
TK very strong
ReplyDeleteWizz air handled 30k passengers for 6 months, and 93.8% load factor on its route to Skopje thats impressive 👏 I think on their network in Ex-yu this is the highest load factor percentage ...
ReplyDeleteI expect ghem to fly daily next summer
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteThe only worrying number I see is that of Norwegian...
ReplyDeleteWondering what is JU LF%?
ReplyDeleteMe too, it would be interesting to know.
Delete+1
DeleteAnd on both routes or combined.
Any real chance of Air Baltic stationing a A220 in Ljubljana? Lju is first non-baltic destination from their base in LPA too
ReplyDeleteDoes Airbaltic fit into Fraports business model?
DeleteI would say so. It's a LH approved partner.
DeleteA little bit worried about the Norwegian loads. Not the best for a LCC. I hope it improves.
ReplyDeleteMid 70s% LF are not good at all for many airlines
ReplyDeleteFor Q1 is more than fine.
DeleteYea and if you read the article, you would see the numbers are for H1.
DeleteFlyDubai is really low. Q1 is supposed to be a good period for dubai and for transfers through Dubai
DeleteThe numbers are for H1 not Q1 but it's like talking to a brick wall.
DeleteSeems like LJU is going to continue growing at a great rate.
ReplyDeleteFraport despite all the complaints people here have about them does a good job in growing traffic.
Traffic has grown due to government efforts to attract new airlines through subsidies. Not because the private company Fraport did anything.
DeleteSure thing buddy. If traffic increases its thanks to government. If it does not it is because of the airport operator!
DeleteIn this case no unfortunately.
DeleteThe airport is down vs 2019 because JP is no longer around carrying a very large number of transfer passengers at loss making fares.
DeleteSo the pax numbers we see now are all O&D, not connections counting the same person twice.
So they needed 6 years just to get back to P2P only? You call this success? LOL!
Delete@Anon 10:07
DeleteDuring these 6 years COVID happened. In all probability they have more than made the real O%D pax already vs 2019. Unlike many airports in the rest of Europe.
And they continue to grow at a much higher rate than most.
Covid happened only in Slovenia? Didn't know. The airport is still way below 2019 while pretty much every single airport is way above 2019. Bravo Fanboys!
DeleteO&D is above 2019. And that is what matters.
DeletePeople from other countries used on flying with cheap connections because of Adria will need to spend a bit more now.
People from other countries fly cheaper from their own countries now than people from Ljubljana because those airports used the past 6 years to develop and surpass Ljubljana.
DeleteOh it's this guy again with "cheap connections". No point in discussing with him.
DeleteHow are you all blaming Fraport still? Adria went bankrupt, what do you expect them to do? Start a new airline?
DeleteLower fees and bring an LCC to open a base. But doesen't matter. Trieste did it.
DeleteWho cares about traffic. Atleast they built a new taxiway for 20 flights a day. Bravo Fraport ☺️❤️
DeleteSo there is new pax decrease in Flydubai flights and very poor load factor.
ReplyDeleteMost of FZ loads in Eruope are in the mid 60%.and it decreased by 76 passengers!
DeleteDecreased by 76 passengers with 3 flights less
DeleteYes, I am sure OTP, BUD, ZAG, BEG, SOF and SJJ loads on Flydubai flights are mid 60%.
DeleteYou should quickly email FlyDubai and write to them to discontinue LJU.
DeleteThis really is very low
Delete66% on 6 hours LCC flight is really not good. Also H1 includes period of their daily flights in winter when demand should be stronger and when a lot of Slovenians are travelling to SE Asia. It is hard to say why their numbers are not so good, I guess its because of Turkish Airlines expansion and better prices / service.
DeleteFlydubai is definitely not an LCC. They have business class with flatbeds which puts all legacy carriers in Europe to shame. I imagine their yields and margins are completely different from LCCs.
DeleteOk you are right, they are not classic LCC, more something like hybrid, but still not legacy.
DeleteI think main reason is when they cut frequency its even harder to use them as a transfer and its more like a p2p. And even for that turkish is cheaper…
DeleteDid Air Serbia increase the number of flights compared to last year? If not, this is an impressive increase in LF.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you see a load factor for air Serbia?
DeleteHes basing it on the +9% passenger growth
DeleteSkopje - Ljubljana needs to be 5 a week, but even daily would work. Just so much demand on there. I can't believe there weren't flights for more than 4 years between these 2 capitals.
ReplyDeleteW6 really got hurt by the engines of their A321s.
DeleteAre there any new lines rumours?
ReplyDeleteThere is one more in plans for the next summer, as reported by this website. Not disclosed which one tho.
DeleteFRA-LJU with Air Dolomiti 😃
DeleteOhrid seasonaL?
DeleteEasyjet discovered Slovenia, that's all I can say; I know for at least one UK route that's happening...and then we wait for the new tender system
