NEWS FLASH
KLM is continuing to deal with the fallout of winter weather in Amsterdam, including snow and strong winds, with over 1.300 flights cancelled since last Friday and a further 300 today alone. The cancellations are impacting the carrier’s operations to markets in the former Yugoslavia as well. The airline has today cancelled both of its daily flights from Amsterdam to Belgrade and Zagreb, as well as its service to Ljubljana. Air Serbia has today scheduled an additional two flights to Amsterdam, for a total of three, to clear the backlog of passengers resulting both from KLM’s and its own cancellations over the past few days. Croatia Airlines is planning to operate its flight to Schiphol Airport today, although the service, which was to depart at 08:25 this morning has been delayed and is yet to depart at the time of publication. The status of scheduled flights may change as the weather situation in Amsterdam continues to evolve.
The situation at Amsterdam Airport is equally severe. Some aircraft have been reported to be waiting up to five hours to taxi to the gate upon landing, while baggage delivery to passengers is taking several hours. For tomorrow, 101 departures and 109 arrivals have already been cancelled.
KLM says de-icing fluid supplies at Schiphol are under pressure due to extreme weather and delayed deliveries. Stock levels are running low and the German supplier can not guarantee timely replenishment.
The Dutch meteorological institute warned of continued hazardous conditions today, with sleet, freezing rain and fog expected across much of the Netherlands. Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam are forecast to see sleet and rain, while fog in the east and southeast could again affect Eindhoven.

Quite a mess

ReplyDeleteI was scheduled to fly on 8 January with KLM from Belgrade to Dublin via Amsterdam, but my morning flight from Belgrade has been cancelled. Unfortunately, I’m still unable to rebook through the app, and it has not been possible to reach customer support by phone.
ReplyDeleteSituations like this can happen, especially due to weather, but I wanted to highlight that cancellations and communication challenges are not unique to one airline. Before placing blame on Air Serbia in the future, it’s worth noting that similar difficulties can arise with other carriers as well.
By some divine providence, our flight last night from AMS to BEG wasn't cancelled. We arrived at BEG at 2am completely exhausted after the 30-hour trip from SFO, but at least we made it.
