NEWS FLASH

Operations at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport resumed this morning after a number of flights were cancelled yesterday afternoon and evening due to winter conditions and ice on the runway. Yesterday, LOT Polish Airlines from Warsaw was forced to divert to Vienna, Vueling from Barcelona to Triste and a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt turned back to Munich. Air Serbia also diverted its flights from Belgrade and Niš back to their home airports after they were unable to land in the Slovenian capital. The service from Niš was rescheduled and operated this morning, while this morning's Belgrade flight was upgraded from a 72-seat ATR72 to a 144-seat Airbus A319 aircraft to cater for passengers who had their flight cancelled yesterday evening.

That's a lot of flights cancelled for an airport like LJU. I'm surprised that so many of them were diverted. Obviously it didn't seem like they would be unable to land.

Because LJU didn't issue any NOTAMs.

The local media is reporting that the runway completely froze over and that the regular deicing was not working. Should be -13 overnight so hopefully they're better prepared.

What I dont understand is that, since the afternoon 1415h, no ac dep or landed anymore, conditions snowy and icy but all those flights to LJU departed, despite the airport being closed, only that they later on had to be diverted or returned to their origin
JU ex BEG, INI but also LH 1460 was completely not understandable, why they took off

LOT and Vueling too. It looks like there was no communication from the airport that anything was wrong. No NOTAMs were issued. So it is really the airport's fault.

I wonder why these flights did not divert to ZAG, and then bus pax to LJU?

Germany Quality level of 2025. Unfortunately far away from the standards they still had in the 1970-1990s. We see this in all aspects incl politicsand Fraport has also in FRA not the best reputation.

LJU airport apron still has the old yellow lighting. Most airports have switched to LED white long ago. But here it’s like the 1970s are calling. A friend of mine just sent me a pic from aboard Turkish right now at LJU. Looks very old fashioned and backwards.
