NEWS FLASH
The next phase of Ljubljana Airport’s main apron redevelopment project has begun, which includes the renewal of 40.000 square metres of pavement, upgraded apron lighting, the addition of new aircraft stands and the installation of infrastructure for electric ground power. Scheduled for completion by the end of October this year, the project will modernise the apron layout, increase the number of available stands and improve operational flexibility to accommodate a wider range of aircraft types. It follows the completion of the taxiway system upgrade last year.
In addition, operator Fraport Slovenija is advancing its e-FUTURE project at the airport, which aims to electrify and decarbonise ground handling services by the end of this year. As part of the 2.34-million-euro initiative, co-financed by the European Union with 1.1 million euros in grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Call, the airport has completed the TP-4 transformer station, now fully connected to the grid to support electric operations. Furthermore, a new electric vehicle charging system has been deployed, comprising a fast charger, twenty smart charging points and fifteen connection points for ground support equipment. The project has also seen the delivery of the first mobile, battery-powered ground power units, enabling zero-emission aircraft servicing. The developments form part of the operator’s broader environmental strategy, which targets a significant reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and full decarbonisation by 2045.

Nice
ReplyDeleteAll these green taxpayer euros are sure nice to spend. Will do very little to benefit the traveller. And it’s not financed by the EU, but by us, the working people who pay for all of this. The EU on its own has no money. Let’s not forget who actually pays the bills - working people.
DeleteDo you also remind your doctor that you pay his/her salary?
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteEverything is nice when you are EU member , open funds to all sources :))
ReplyDeleteWill this mean more aircraft stands for passenger planes? Also, in the article it says that the project is gonna “improve operational flexibility to accommodate a wider range of aircraft types,” does that mean stands for bigger aircraft?
ReplyDeleteYeah, EK is one of the 4 new airlines - they are starting daily LJU-DXB with a380 from summer on :)
DeleteOf course. Slovenes were the only passengers on EK Zagreb flights. Triple seven was too small for the service and they didn't have enough available 380's so they cut it. Now they are withdrawing them from several services to engage them to LJU. And I heard they will not wait for the full swing summer, they are deploying them in a week time, with new timetable
DeleteYep, absolutely correct. And in summer they are starting second daily a380 rotation
DeleteBig moves for LJU! Upgraded stands for better flexibility and a fully electrified ground power system by the end of the year. That's really a giant leap. Excited to see the final results this October and the impact on operation!
ReplyDeleteWhat green transition?
