NEWS FLASH
Swiss International Air Lines is reducing its planned operations between Zurich and Ljubljana for the upcoming summer season amid an ongoing pilot shortage, which has led the carrier to cancel hundreds of flights. Swiss now intends to operate sixteen weekly services on the route from June through to the end of the summer season in late October, down from the originally planned eighteen weekly rotations. However, the higher frequency of eighteen weekly flights will still be maintained in April and May. Despite the reduction, Swiss will continue to offer an average of four to five additional weekly services compared to the previous summer season.
Swiss will cancel 326 flights this summer due to a shortage of cockpit crew, as well as ongoing technical and structural constraints. The reductions will impact around 0.4% of the airline’s total scheduled operations. The carrier is currently facing a shortage of both captains and first officers for its Airbus A320 and A321 fleet. In addition, eleven aircraft have been grounded due to engine-related issues, further complicating operational planning. Swiss said the cancellations were implemented as a “last resort”.

One of the best airlines from LJU to use for transfer flights imo. Good prices and smooth transfer in ZRH. I’m glad they are keeping part of the increase.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the prices are fantastic.
DeleteAgreed. Very good airline. Today and in the past, I mean Swissair time. It's my 3rd favourite amd most preferred company, just behind Emirates and KLM
DeleteZRH is an amazing airport for transfers. Also Swiss business class is for the last year or so, consistently cheaper for transatlantic flights compared to Lufthansa. My only complaint is that Star Alliance business lounge in schengen area is often quite overcrowded.
DeleteYou can usually use the Alpine lounge which is much nicer.
DeleteI’m hoping my LJU-FUE via ZRH flight doesn’t get affected in late June/early July.
DeleteAnd their chocolate better than LH’s ;)))))
ReplyDeleteAround 100 out of the 200 crew members, who were fired after they rejected being vaccinated in 2021/22, were pilots. They never came back. Those 100 pilots are part but not the full story of the current cockpit crew shortage.
ReplyDeleteWell done pilots. They would have had heart issues now as many do and cannot fly. Or simply die midflight.
DeleteWhat a stupid comment. Please adjust your tin-foil hat
