Air Serbia - Etihad expand codeshare partnership

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Air Serbia has expanded its network footprint by adding Hong Kong and Johannesburg to its codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways, bringing the total number of destinations covered by the deal to 24. As part of the agreement, Air Serbia will place its “JU” designator code and flight number on daily services operated by Etihad Airways between the two cities and Abu Dhabi, where travellers have connections with Air Serbia to and from Belgrade. Air Serbia's CEO, Dane Kondić, said, “We are pleased to expand our Etihad Airways codeshare agreement to two important cities in Africa and Asia, offering our guests convenient, one-stop access via Abu Dhabi. Increasing the breadth and depth of our network to provide travellers with more choice and convenience is a key part of our strategy to consolidating our position as the region’s leading airline". He added, "In addition to strengthening feed onto our network, this development will build on our bilateral trade and tourism ties, driving important growth in the Serbian economy". The new codeshare flights can be booked now for travel from February 1. Air Serbia last expanded its Etihad codeshare agreement late last year when it added Nairobi and Bangkok to its list of destinations.

Not quite true... LH, KL, AF, LX et all from JNB are ridiculously expensive. Even EK/FZ option is no longer feasible. TK seems to be getting the bulk of BEG-bound traffic from South Africa for the time being.
