Latvia's airBaltic has concluded a codeshare agreement with LOT Polish Airlines, which will see it add its designator code and flight number onto the latter's service from Warsaw to Belgrade. The codeshare will come into effect on January 2, 2016 when LOT resumes four weekly services to Belgrade. Flights will increase to daily from the start of the 2016 summer season. “As we reinforce links between Riga and other hubs, our customers benefit immediately from better connectivity with regions where direct flights are unavailable", Christophe Viatte, airBaltic's Chief Commercial Officer, said. airBaltic operated nonstop flights from Riga to the Serbian capital for a short while during 2010.
Bad news for ASL's flight to WAW. Looks like LOT this time around is coming to BEG to stay for good.
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia already has codeshares to the Baltic states:

They want be codesharing much now that they will be directly competing on the same route.
DeleteIf you read provided link, you would find out that ASL and LOT codeshare was for more than just one route, unlike this announcement. LOT has codeshare on couple of ASL flights and the other way around so it benefits both. When Air Serbia starts JFK passengers from WAW might find out it's cheaper to fly via BEG than direct.
DeleteYeah right!
DeleteThey will be passengers who would choose BEG as a transfer point to JFK from WAW instead of the dozen other options.
Unless of course ASL intends of offering people tickets at half the cost of flying them to NY.
Woes for ASL continue, while LOT is making moves in the North and Aegean on the South, while Air Serbia is staying idle.
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia is staying in the middle, not idle. Where were you when Air Serbia announced dozens of codeshares over the last year, everything from many Alitalia codeshares to Far East destinations? I don't remember your comments "this is positive news for ASL"? But every tiny info that can be read as negative, you follow with "this is not good for Air Serbia".

That's what haters said when Air Serbia started Zagreb, "no one is going to fly from ZAG via BEG"... another fail.
DeleteWhat does flying from BEG to ZAG has to do with flying from WAW to JFK via BEG?
DeleteErm... you do realise that BT and JU already cooperate and that you can book flights via their respective websites? JU sells RIX via VIE and CPH.
ReplyDeleteThe road through Warsaw is just another route, the fastest way is still through VIE with JU and BT.
