B&H’s fate to be decided on Friday

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

The fate of the embattled Bosnian carrier B&H Airlines will be decided on Friday when a fresh round of talks is scheduled to take place between the airline’s union and the Federation government of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the union, the government will decide whether to liquidate the carrier or provide funds to pay off part of the multi million euro debt the airline has towards the lessor of its aircraft, the asset management company HETA. Government sources state the Prime Minister will offer HETA 2.7 million euros and request for the other eight million euros worth of debt to be written off. However, the asset management company is unlikely to agree to such terms, which will ultimately lead to B&H Airlines’ bankruptcy. The carrier has been grounded for over two weeks now. Earlier, the Federal Minister for Transport and Communication, Denis Lasić, said that the best option would be for the airline to declare bankruptcy. “I have held talks with the Prime Minister Fadil Novalić and the conclusion is to liquidate the carrier. It is not the end of the world. It is a state-owned company but other carriers in the region aren’t exactly pushing daisies either”, Mr Lasić said.
