Belgrade Airport eyes busy winter

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will offer links to 54 destinations operated by 24 airlines during the 2015/16 winter season. Compared to last year, Qatar Airways has boosted its operations from Doha, maintaining daily flights compared to four weekly services last winter. In addition, easyJet, Pegasus Airlines and Wizz Air are all adding frequencies to their existing services to the Serbian capital, while Norwegian Air Shuttle's seasonal flights from Stockholm will now operate on a year-round basis throughout the winter season, the airport said in a press release. Furthermore, Aegean Airlines has boosted capacity on its Athens service from a Dash 8 turboprop to Airbus A320-family aircraft, while LOT Polish Airlines will resume flights from Warsaw on January 2. On the other hand, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and Alitalia will reduce their number of flights, as well as Air Serbia on a number of destinations. Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines will double capacity on its cargo flights from Istanbul. The 2015/16 winter season began on Sunday and ends March 26.

Easyjet are not adding frequencies to its existing route to Geneva. Please, correct it. The winter season will obviously be much less busy than it was last winter. So the title of the article is not clear.

Their press release says it is

Unbelievable how they try to make cake from shit:

    -3 TAP, Lisabon, cancel route
-5 BH Airlines, Sarajevo, cancel route
    -3 easyJet, Milano, cancel route
    -2 Swiss, Geneva, cancel route
    -2 Swiss, Zurich
    -3 Alitalia, Rome
    -7 Lufthansa, Frankfurt
    -7 Lufthansa, Munich
-2 Aegean, Athens (bigger plane but less frequencies)
    -35 Air Serbia
    = -69 flights per week

    More flights than last winter:

    +1 Norwegian, Stockholm
    +1 Pegasus, Istanbul
    +1 Wizz, Eidhoven
    +1 Wizz, Gothenburg
    +3 Qatar, Doha
    = +7 flights per week

So it is -62 flights per week!!!

Another interesting point is that besides Prague and Ljubljana Iran Air is back in Belgrade for the winter, thrice weekly from Frankfurt.

Absence of air service agreement between the two countries. Austrian Airlines codeshares with Iran Air.
