ECA to launch international flights

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Croatian-based European Coastal Airlines (ECA), Europe’s only scheduled seaplane service, will launch its first international flights this November from Split and Rijeka to Ancona in Italy. The new service come ahead of schedule, as the airline initially planned to introduce flights to the Italian coast once Croatia entered the Schengen Area. Nevertheless, the four weekly service from both Split and Rijeka will launch on November 13. Flight time takes just under one hour. Previously, ECA said it was also considering international services to Montenegro.

I was just wondering, could they possibly launch Belgrade service landing on Danube river and using Port of Belgrade as border crossing? I think it would be fantastic if the airplane can reach Belgrade...

Sure the planes could reach Belgrade. However to get all permissions for your described scenario and landing on a river w currents is a different story. There seem to be more obvious shorter routes for ECA first.

Wow. Who would have expected these route launches before next summer at least?
I wonder is there a market for it, however it should be easier to fill small planes compared to an Airbus...
Thirdly, it is interesting they will obviously install passport controls in their sea ports, I guess they are not operating from SPU and RJK airports?
