Maribor Airport eyes busy year

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

The CEO of Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, Ladimir Brolih, believes the airport will record passenger growth in 2016 and handle around 27.500 travellers, or even up to 30.000 if additional new routes are negotiated. Furthermore, the amount of processed cargo should rise to around 300 tonnes. "This would represent appropriate growth compared to the previous year, but still not enough given the airport's potential", Mr Brolih says. In 2015, the airport served 24.886 passengers and handled 183 tonnes of cargo. This summer, Express Airways will launch flights to Dusseldorf and Split, while the airport will cater for a number of charter flights. Despite strong passenger growth in 2015 and revenue of 1.2 million euros, the airport finished the year in the red. While the total net loss has not been disclosed, the airport's finances were impacted by subsidies issued to Adria Airways to run seasonal flights from Maribor to London Southend. The route was terminated last year and will not resume in 2016.

EPR is expected to fly MBX-PRN route if they manage to lease another B737-300.

Another aircraft they are trying to lease is A320. Read that in Večer.

my question as neither of our Airports is connected with DBV, is AUA doing a huge mistake? Austrian Airlines will operate a wide-body Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on some of its flights from Vienna to Dubrovnik this summer season. Starting June 5, the 225-seat jet will be utilised each Friday until September 1, before it is replaced with the Airbus A321 aircraft. Austrian will run daily services to Dubrovnik this summer season. The seasonal flights begin March 27.

MBX Needs seasonal Connections also with small Airports/airplanes to croatian Island and also DBV.
