To the admin/author of this "ex-yu news flash" article:
In the article you wrote, the applicant for the position of First officer at Montenegro Airlines must be at least 28 years of age.

This is simply not true !!!

According to official entry requirements as published on Montenegro Airlines website the applicant must be younger than 28 years on the day the application window closes. Verbatim quote from their website: "da nije stariji od 28 godina do dana isteka roka za prijavu na konkurs".

To Montenegro Airlines recruitment personnel and their current CEO: Is this a joke? What kind of an airline company are you running? How can something like this come from a government-owned company whose owner, i.e. the government, wants Montenegro to join EU and NATO? The anti-ageism legislation which had been passed by the government, is being broken in the company owned by the same government. This is completely against the anti-ageism law as it is being practiced in Europe and other developed parts of the world ... How do you dare discriminate applicants based on their age!? Why stop at this and not go even further and write down the names & surnames of the preferred applicants?

In normal airline companies, according to labor law, the job ad as it is published on Montenegro Airlines website would not be allowed, let alone discriminate any of the candidates based on their age during the selection process !!!

  2. Usually it is said that beggars can't be choosers, but MGX is extremely specific on what they want.

There is probably less than 5-6 unemployed and qualified pilots in the world that are both under 28 years in age and Montenegrin citizens.

The controversial ageism requirement in the article has been rectified and is now aligned with MGX's official age discrimination policy.

Someone should file a complaint against them at Montenegro Ombudsman.

But then again, it eludes my mind as to who might even work for an airline in such a pitiful financial situation as MGX currently is.

    1. i have very limited knowledge of European aviation regulations, but I think that it is legal for a pilot to fly for an airline as a FO when they only have 250 hours, but in reality it is very difficult for many low time pilots to find jobs because of competition.

MGX might be trying to scrape the bottom of the barrel here, and hire some young pilots for very cheap. The young pilots benefit by getting valuable experience for a few years before leaving and trying to find a job at a real airline.

      You're missing the point.

Pilots with frozen ATPL and 250 logged hours who had started and finished (due to various reasons; e.g. financial, social, family, etc.) their self-funded pilot training later in life (lets say in their late 30s or early 40s) are being denied the right to work as a pilot at Montenegro Airlines. They are being being discriminated based on their age. To put it differently - they are victims of employment discrimination because of their Date of Birth.

This is against the European, the Montenegro (and against any other civilized country's) labor law.

No airline company anywhere in the world dares to pose candidate age limit in their job ads, let alone suggesting their pilot selection process is also based on age.

    3. Yeah I agree, but I am trying to find a reason why MGX might do this.

I think they are trying to find young people without any family obligations so they can take advantage of them by offering them extremely low pay which no older person would accept.

Well, that kind of defies the point then ... doesn't it?!

If no older person would accept suggested poor offer (extremely low pay, miserable Terms & Conditions, ...), there'd be no need for the set age limit in the first place.

To sum up, there is NO reason whatsoever for any employer to discriminate. And there's a reason why ageism is prohibited by law. - Because it is based on employer's prejudice, stereotypes and perceived qualities of the employee rather than employee's own merits. And aviation was build on meritocracy!
