Oradea, in north-western Romania, close to the Hungarian border, is anticipating for Air Serbia to launch flights from Belgrade this summer season. Authorities from Romania's tenth largest city believe the service would be profitable as it would attract a significant number of transfer passengers who would then connect onto the airline's flights to New York in Belgrade. Cornel Popa, President of Bihor County, of which Oradea is the capital, says there is a strong possibility for flights from Belgrade to be introduced. A representative for Air Serbia in Romania told the "Bihor Online" portal that the company is evaluating possible services to Oradea and will make concrete announcements in the coming period. Oradea Airport is currently only served by TAROM from Bucharest. Local authorities are also in talks with Israel's El Al, while Blue Air has announced plans to launch services from the Romanian city to Turin this summer. Oradea Airport completed extensive runway and terminal upgrades late last year. Air Serbia will boost frequencies between Belgrade and Bucharest to nine weekly this summer season.
All I can see is TAROM codeshare

ReplyDeleteLOL!
"Authorities from Romania's tenth largest city believe the service would be profitable"
Double LOL!
It would be a lot better to have Tarom operate these flights, with an Air Serbia codeshare
ReplyDeleteJU can barely make OTP work even less so Oradea- even with subsidies or whatever.
ReplyDeleteJU needs to sort out its own domestic mess before embarking on an adventure such as this one.
Plus, they have no spare planes during the summer season, even at night.
OTP is a hub on its own, plus it has loads of low cost flights to Europe - unlike Oradea. So, it may as well work better for JU than OTP, honestly.
DeleteHah.
Air Serbia will get 50% off airport charges like the other companies mentioned here. But they are still negotiating.
ReplyDeleteIasi would be a much better Idea.
ReplyDeleteI guess Cluj Airport already have a good deal with Wizz Air, otherwise i think it would be better for Air Serbia to fly there, instead of Oradea, which btw have some Serbs living there and good handball team.
ReplyDeleteSooo we have BWK, ZAD and now OMR seeking JU flights, with PRN on the works. Romania is a huge potential for JU and its a shame that there isn't any word of ATR replacements coming into place.
