Slovenia's three main commercial airports have seen strong passenger growth during 2015. In addition to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, which saw 1.438.304 travellers pass through its doors, an increase of 7.4%, Maribor Edvard Rusjan netted 24.886 passengers, up 41.7% on the year before. Portorož Airport, which has no scheduled flights, handled 22.975 travellers, an increase of 9.8% on 2014. Infrastructure Minister. Peter Gašperšič. recently said he was confident Slovenian airports will thrive in 2016. "Ljubljana Airport is already in private ownership and is successfully developing business plans, with cargo volumes and passenger numbers growing. The airport in Maribor has been investing heavily and the airport manager is now planning activities that are headed in the right direction", Mr Gašperšič said. Last week it was confirmed that Express Airways will launch flights from Maribor to Dusseldorf during the summer, while talks with Adria Airways over potential services are still ongoing.
