The Independent Union of Serbian Pilots has called on the country’s Civil Aviation Directorate to investigate flight planning methods at Air Serbia which they believe could affect passenger safety. The union states that Air Serbia pilots sometime have to fly two nights in a row and then have to work the following day as well. In a press release, the union said that, for example, a pilot lands on Tuesday at 06.00 and has his/her next departure at 23.00 the same day. Their rotation finishes at 04.00 on Wednesday. The union warns that some pilots must then work on Thursday morning as well. “This kind of planning, despite the fact there is a sufficient number of pilots, may endanger air traffic safety”, the union says. It also notes that duty times among pilots is not evenly spread and that the company no longer provides transport for its pilots, who must either come to the airport using their own mode of transportation or public transport. The union has called for the implementation of a Fatigue Risk Management System at the airline. Neither Air Serbia, nor the Civil Aviation Directorate, have publically responded to the claims.
"...the company no longer provides transport for its pilots, who must either come to the airport using their own mode of transportation or public transport."
ReplyDeleteSo?!? Why should they? Even though I might agree with the working schedule complaints, this request is utter rubbish. The company should not be obliged to drive its staff up and down. Maybe provide parking free of charge for pilots' vehicles at the airport, but nothing more than that.
Preteraše ga, baš!
When pilots use company free transportation they spare their own money on petrol, accompanied with other crew members...
DeleteWhat a total nonsense. My 65 yr old father does 4 night shifts of 8 hrs each in a row - w/o problems and complaints and earns probably not half of pilots salary. This demand is digusting and outrageous
DeleteAt the age of 65 he should enjoy pension days not night shifts?
DeleteAlso, I am sure that your grandfather's job does not include being responsible for 130 lives
Ajde ziveli!
Cabin crew can request 3x fixed day-off per year, called "golden day"! They are not aware that real golden days are forever gone with the (g)old Jat.

Managers and wealthy people hold all the power in this new capitalist society. They can use their positions to decrease the quality of life for normal people so that their profit margins will grow.
DeleteThe only way for people to reverse this ongoing trend of worse and worse quality of life is to fight back using organized labor.
Air Serbia holds a monopoly on pilot employment in Serbia, so naturally the pilots should organize and make a monopoly on pilot labor!
In USA, all of the most profitable and best liked airlines have the best labor relations, such as Alaska, Southwest, Delta, and JetBlue.
Air Serbia must start building friendly relations with their pilots now because the growth of the airline industry is greater than the number of pilots entering the work force and soon the pool of qualified and unemployed pilots will evaporate. It costs a lot more to park planes than it costs to treat your employees well!

DeleteAnon 4:48,
ReplyDeleteDoes your father ever have responsibility for the lives of 150 people?
Super daddy rules..yeah
