Tivat Airport tower overhaul begins

Friday, November 13, 2015

The redevelopment of Tivat Airport's 37-metre control tower, built in 1971, has begun. The project involves the construction of 1.700 square metres of office space at the base of the control tower, while the control tower cab will be eighty square metres in size. An employee rest area will be located underneath the tower cab. Construction will be carried out at a quicker pace as it will take place at the site of the current air traffic control facility, with the existing tower cab to be demolished and the base of the structure expanded. Work is being financed by the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency (SMATSA) at a price of four million euros and is scheduled for completion by the end of next year, although the tower itself will be in use by the summer of 2016. The head of SMATSA, Radojica Rovčanin, has previously said that Tivat’s new control tower will resolve all aircraft monitoring issues at the airport over the next two decades. “With the new tower in Tivat, we will improve safety with the use of the latest technology, which will, in turn, improve the functioning of all of the airport’s services. It is important to note that this control tower will be an architectural masterpiece which will greet tourists upon their arrival in Tivat and leave a strong first impression on them”, Mr Rovačanin said. Following its redevelopment, the structure will also feature a panoramic elevator, while administrative offices, a weather centre, the airport’s bureau, training facilities and classrooms will be located at the base of the building. Tivat Airport has relocated its air traffic control to a makeshift structure which has been fitted with necessary navigation equipment during the tower's redevelopment.

Не сумњам, само бих да доживим тај "снажни први утисак" који ће торањ оставити на људе што пре. Сигурно имају рендер кад су почели да граде!
