Dubrovnik Airport expansion advances

EU approves Dubrovnik Airport expansion funds

The multi million euro expansion of Dubrovnik Airport is in full swing, with all construction work currently on schedule. This week, the European Investment Bank (EIB) approved a 32.5 million euro loan for the project. Under the terms of the deal, the EIB will initially provide seven million euros as a direct loan to Dubrovnik Airport and 10.5 million through Croatia's Development Bank (HBOR). The entire project, which will include the construction of a new passenger terminal, storage facilities, access roads, car park and the lengthening of the runway and taxiways, is valued at 274 million euros and will be co-financed through EU structural funds. According to the EIB, the loan was approved as the project will cater for future growth in traffic and improve safety and service standards.

Dubrovnik Airport's expansion project is scheduled for completion in 2019. The aim of the redevelopment is to increase the airport’s capacity and reduce congestion issues during the peak summer months. The new terminal will stretch over 36.500 square metres and have the capacity to handle 3.5 million passengers per year, according to the project outline. Furthermore, it will feature additional air bridges. The future building will be located next to the current terminal and will be connected to it. Long-term plans call for the construction of a commercial zone around the airport with a hotel and even a second runway. The first phase of Dubrovnik Airport’s expansion began in 2007 and was completed in 2010. It included the construction of Croatia's most modern passenger terminal stretching over 13.700 square metres. It has the capacity to handle two million passengers per year. In addition, the airport installed two air bridges at the beginning of 2015, becoming the first in Croatia to feature them.

Dubrovnik is preparing for an extremely busy summer next year with a handful of airlines already announcing new services to the city, among which are Volotea, Air Berlin, Niki and Transavia, while many carriers will boost frequencies on existing seasonal flights. During the first nine months of the year, Dubrovnik Airport handled 1.505.938 passengers, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period in 2014.

    I think Dubrovnik has to work on two things now. 1. Sustainable winter operations and 2. getting some transatlantic flight during the summer. I'm sure there is a big enough market if there was one 30 years ago.

    Let's hope we hear some encouraging news from SPU as well as they need an expansion more than DBV does.

    Any prediction for the top 4 HR airports at the end of the year? Can SPU come close to 2 million?

      Well, the fact that a minister announced it in a pre-election period makes me a little bit suspicious.

      True. Flew several times this summer into SPU and DBV and I can tell you SPU on Fri/Sat/Sun can't handle the amount of airplanes anymore. They hardly have enough stands and gates, let alone waiting times before the runway as there are no parallel taxiways at all. However the queues in front of checkin and security control are the longest I have seen in some 20 years of being a frequent flyer - and that is the worst! One must count with 1,5 hours for the security control only. Note this is not an exaggeration. SPU needs massive extension and upgrading much more urgently than DBV.

      Split je u velikim problemima, a to nažalost nitko ne spominje. Dubrovnik se već godinama razvija korak po korak, planovi se realiziraju u skladu s mogućnostima, a Split godinama gomila putnike i novce od taksi i čini jedno veliko ništa. Rast broja putnika se događa već godinama, a zračna luka nije učinila ništa da se razvija u skladu s tim rastom. Po meni nije uspjeh imati skoro dva milijuna putnika u zgradi koja puca po šavovima. Nije mi uspjeh kada većina tih putnika čeka u redu po sat i duže, a pogotovo mi nije uspjeh kada ih čekiraš u šatoru. Uprava splitskog aerodroma se ne zna nositi s rastom prometa i blokiraju njegov razvoj i ruše mu ugled (prelistajte reviewe stranih putnika). Ali da, prefrigani kakvi jesmo, pričamo na način da se "zračna luka i djelatnici uspješno nose s rastom broja putnika" umjesto da "zračna luka nije ništa napravila iako putnici (čitaj novci) slijeću kao pahulje snijega u Sibiru." Žalosno.

      however next year looks very good for all Croatian Airports.

      Don't know about Pula but huge plans exist for Losin, including not only new terminal but also runway extension in order to be able to serve A320 family. Actually majority of Limitless passengers from Scandinavia to Rijeka are holidaymakers spending their holidays in Losinj, and Rijeka is just transitional airport until Losinj is ready.

      Really? What was childish in sentence "unlike Air Serbia which will cut 30 weekly flights, Adria will have 18 more and Croatia will have some more flights". That shows that Air Serbia optimistic plan did not work, and that situation change after 2 years. First there was huge increase of Air Serbia flights that result in large cuts in Adria and Croatia time table, and now situation is upside down.

      So, that is kid frustration?

      There are 3 companies in exYU region that are competition which work in same airports as feeding. Two of those were affected by third huge expansion and dumping. Now third one have big reduce and in same time two others have increasing. It is all about air traffic not a bit of nationalism.

    When you enlarge the photo, it says Newcastle on the airport stairs, not Manchester. And btw back in 1986, usual JAT equipment to from MAN was B727, often even B707, and DC-9 very very rarely

    Obzirom da se po Croatiji Airlines priča o "novoj" ideji CEO-a da nabavi CRJ, rezimirao bih što je sve do sada g. Kučko iznosio kao planove za firmu

    1. Nabavit će se novi A319

    2. Nabavljaju se CRJ

    3. Prolongiraju se kupnja novih A319, no iznajmljuju se A319 i A320 od Adrije jer su jako jeftini a otvraju se linije poput DMO.

    4. Nabavlja se CSerija

    5. Nabavljaju se Embraeri 190

    6. Razmišlja se o Mitsubishi MRJ

    7. Umjesto A319 kupuju se A320neo

    8. I opet se nabavljaju CRJ

    Još da doda SSJ i C919 na spisak i onda smo sve odradili! Ili možda da "nabavimo" koji širokotrupac?


    E sad se pitam tri pitanja:

    1. Još prije par tjedana bila je gotova stvar nabavka Emraera 190. Sad je opet CRJ in? WTF? Lufthansa se predomišlja i mijenja naloge ili se igramo dječjeg vrtića pa bi malo piškio, a malo kakio?

    2. Zna li uopće g. Kučko što želi? Koja je strategija firme ako se planovi toliko često i drastičnio mijenjaju (pa nije, do vraga isto letjeti sa A320 i sa CRJ)?

    3. Koja je svrha ovakvih čestih promijena stavova? Služi li to zaigravanju radnika, koji onda samo o tome pričaju i time se maskiraju pravi problemi firme?

      Postoji jedan veliki problem sa balkanskim mentalitetom, a taj je sto se stvari pruhvacaju zdravo za gotovo, sto se tracevi i pricice prikazuju kao istina, cinjenice i "gotova stvar", i sto se ne prihvaca kritika takvog nekriticnog stava. Da pokusam biti malo jasniji i konkretniji : Maliciozno je i tendenciozno kritikovati bilo koga u CTN sto jos uvek ne zna koji ce regionalni avion biti uveden u saobracaj, jer je trziste dinamicno, a ponude brojne. Spominjanje CRJ-a kao opcije nije "uklesano u kamenu" i svako spominjanje istog kao takvog je onaj balkanski men talitet sa pocetka teksta. Jos je malicioznije i tendencioznije namerno mesati flotu za regionalne letove, koja god da ce ona biti, sa flotom evropskog i srednjeg doleta, konkretno Erbasa, sto je neupitno, barem za sada i u ovim okolnostima. Ali, CTN napkom pokazuje koliko toliko pozitivne finansijske rezultate, restrukturiranje se privodi kraju, najavljeno je otvaranje novih linija, sirenje flote, uspeli su sa promenom narudzbe 319 u 320NEO, objavljuju se konkursi za zaposljavanje novih ljudi, i onda "strucnjaci" koji su "savetovali" HDZ-ove "strucnjake" koji su doveli do urusavanja i ekonomije drzave, i jenog aviprevoznika, onda pljuju po tim istim rezultatima, u predizborno vreme, na stranicama gde vecina ljudi bas i nije naklonjena HR civilnom vazduhoplovstvu,.Jedino sto mogu da kazem nakon ovoga gospodine Purgeru da treba da vas bude sramota sto ovako pisete. I btw. nemam nikakve veza ni sa Kuckom ni sa "Kroacijom", samo sam objektivni posmatrac

      Gospodine, niti imam, niti sam imao, niti ću imati baš ikakve veze sa HDZ-om, a jednako sam kritizirao rukovodstvo CTN-a iz vremena HDZ-a. Čak štoviše oni koji me poznaju znaju da sam u vrijeme HDZ-a uspio sa kritikama doći i do tadašnjeg HDZ-ovog ministra koji je tadašnjeg generalnog dirktora natjerao na trodnevne sastanke na kojem sam prezentirao svoje viđenje kompanije i probleme. U vrijeme HDZ-a bio sam daleko kritičniji i glasniji, što treba prepisati mlađim godinama i većoj volji za "borbu". Mene se osobno ne tiče tko je na vlasti, već samo dobrobit hrvatskog zračnog prometa koji jest krucijalan za ovu državu. Ja sam potpuno apolitičan. Konačno i moji medijski istupi iz vremena HDZ-a i danas to jasno pokazuju.

      Nikako se ne mogu složiti o neusporedivosti Airbusa i 100-seater jetova (danas razlika između regionalnih zrakoplova i Airbuseva nije toliko velika da je neusporediva). No, upravo je g. Kučko taj koji je govorio o zamjeni flote A319 sa CSerijom, ili sa 100-seaterima. Sa time su se piloti "zabavljali" mjesecima, pa su bili jako sretni kada su Airbusevi ostali. Slučajno? Mudrome dosta.

      Isto tako jasno je da danas Embraer 190 ili veći CRJ može zamijeniti Airbuseve na 90% linija (neisplativ je samo na onim aerodromima koji slotovima i taksama motiviraju veće zrakoplove poput LHR ili FRA) ili pak na izuzetno dugim linijama na kojima CTN i ovako ne leti (upitan bi možda bio samo TLV koji se leti tek 2 leta tjedno i u slučaju promjene strategije ne bi bio krucijalan za egzistenciju firme). Čak štoviše niz kompanija je povečao broj frekvencija uvođenjem 100-seatera umjesto Airuseva i time bitno povečao broj putnika. Jednom sam napisao analizu pojedinih linija Finnaira i povečanja broja putnika rezultiranih povečanjem broja frekvencija prelaskom sa A320 na E-190. Dat ću samo jedan primjer. Nekadašnja linija sa jednom dnevnom frekvencijom sa A320 povečana je na dvije sa E-190. Rezultat je bio uvođenje i trećeg dnevnog leta sa A319 u samo godinu i pola. Dakle, u ovom momentu reči da 100-seater ne može biti zamjena za Airbus nije blizu istini. I konačno još jednom naglašavam da je g. Kučko i sam javno govorio o takvoj mogućnosti.

      I zato i jesam pitao kakva je strategija firme? Posebno što se tako lako mijenjaju bitni stavovi. Ja bih shvatio da netko kaže mi ćemo uvesti manji avion zato da povečamo broj frekvencija što će u konačnici povečati broj putnika (uz sve pozitivne i negativne efekte koje bi to imalo). No, onda možemo raspravljati o CRJ (eventualno CSeriji) ili Embraeru. No, u isto vrijeme i gemištirati u to Airbus...

      Ili pak strategija firme može biti: "mi ćemo imati dualnu flotu jetova". No, u kombinaciji sa Q400 imati tri različita zrakoplova na samo 12-14 aviona nije hrabro nego ravno samoubojstvu. Da firma odluči povečati flotu na 18-20 zrakoplova to bi još i imalo smisla, ali imati po 2-6 zrakoplova po tipu stvarno toliko poskupljuje poslovanje i otežava operativno djelovanje da će samo ubrzati propast firme. I u tom kontekstu sam spominjao strategiju firme.

      Konačno, kakva god strategija bila CEO ne bi smio jasno iznositi podatke o "novom" zrakoplovu prije nego kraja pregovora. To ne donosi ništa dobro, pokazuje nesigurnost firme, rekao bih čak i nakaradnost. Sve ovo što sam ja napisao CEO je iznio ili u medijima ili na velikim sastancima poput Skupštine HSPP-a. Pa kako je moguće da firma javno iznosi stavove o različitim zrakoplovima i to potpuno različite svakih mjesec dana? Pa zar je nabava zrakoplava jednaka odluci kupovine mlijeka u obližnjoj trgovinu? Nije li ona produkt ozbiljnog promišljanja, analize tržišta, koordinacije svih službi od održavanja, preko personalne službe, do prodaje? Konačno, CEO nije rekao "mi razmišljamo o CRJ ili Embraeru", nego je javno nekoliko puta istakao Embraer kao gotovu stvar, a sada se u kompaniji govorio o CRJ. Ovo toviše čudi što se o Embraeru govorilo kao o nečem što će se desiti vrlo skoro. Znači za pretpostaviti bi trebalo biti da su sve analize obavljene i sada se pregovara sa mogućim dobavljačima. Ili je ta nabava zrakoplova toliko daleko da CEO iznosi tek svoje želje? Ako je to tako zašto javno iznositi Embraer? Zašto ne spominjati tek 100-seater kao potrebu CTN-a?

      I upravo zato sam istakako da ne mogu dokučiti tu potrebu za iznošenjem takvih podataka i da mi to sve liči na dječji vrtić.

      Gospodine Purger, krasno je to sto osecate potrebu ovako opsirno odgovoriti na moj post, i prihvatio bih apsolutno sve sto ste napisali, da vas prvi tekst na koji sam reagovao ne pocinje recima : "Obzirom da se u Croatiji Airlines prica o..." Time ste obezvredili sve ono sto ste napisali kasnije, i u prvom tekstu, kao i u odgovoru na moj tekst. Ne mozete pricice i traceve koji pricaju raznorazni zaposlenici CTN-a iznositi kao objektivni istinu i na tome temeljiti "analize", a jos manje kritike. Jednostavno gubite verodostojnost. I tu se za mene prica zavrsava. A ako niste clan, ok, verujem na rec, iako i obicni "simpatizeri" mogu pripomoci u kampanji

      Još jednom naglašavam da je CEO CTN-a sve gore navodio ili u medijima ili na sjednicama na kojima je bio prisutan velik broj ljudi, ili na javnim mjestima pred nekoliko osoba. Toliko puta sam se već osvrtao na planove izjavljene pred stotinama ljudi ili u medijima da to već postaje redovna pojava. Ovu posljednju sam dobio od osoba iz firme koje bitno sudjeluju u radu CTN-a. Jel to CEO izabacio kao patku, moguće… ali tada ostaje ono treće pitanje „koja je svrha takvih lansiranja priča i jel se time samo zabavljaju zaposlenici“.
