| Belgrade - Ohrid flights to launch this summer |
The Mayor of Ohrid, Nikola Bakračeski, has confirmed that Air Serbia will launch flights from Belgrade to Ohrid in June, following talks between the two sides earlier this week. Services are expected to run on a seasonal summer basis until late October. Mr Bakračeski said he was confident both local authorities and the Macedonian Ministry of Transport and Communication will jointly support the new flights through subsidies and deemed it an "important project". "During our meeting we reviewed all possible models of cooperation, which would benefit both sides. We concluded that the Belgrade - Ohrid service is significant for us in two respects. Firstly, the flights will cater for Serbian tourists but also travellers across Europe and the United States, keeping in mind that services from New York to Belgrade will launch in June. On the other hand, these flights will benefit locals who will be able to travel to various destinations and back home via Belgrade", the Mayor said.
EX-YU Aviation News inquired Air Serbia about the planned new service back in December last year but received no response to date. Flights between Belgrade and Ohrid last operated by Jat Airways in the summer of 2013, on a seasonal basis, when Air Serbia's predecessor maintained six weekly services (launched on June 23). Last week, Air Serbia's Chairman, Siniša Mali, said the carrier is also considering introducing flights to Kiev and St. Petersburg, as well as acquiring a second long haul aircraft. The airline last expanded its network in December 2014 when it introduced flights to Zagreb.
Ohrid Airport handled 107.916 passengers last year, overtaking its 1996 record. The airport's 54% growth in 2015 was fuelled by Wizz Air, which introduced year-round flights from Basel and seasonal services to London Luton Airport, carrying some 60.000 passengers to and from Ohrid. This summer, Arkia Israeli Airlines will launch seasonal flights from Tel Aviv on June 9, which will operate up to three times per week, each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, with an Embraer E190 jet. In addition, one of Europe's largest tour operators, Thomas Cook, will introduce summer charters from Brussels to Ohrid on June 20, while Corendon Dutch Airlines will resume its seasonal services from Amsterdam.

OHD will most likely be the same price as SKP. JU has a policy of no offering tickets for less than €100.

"Iznajmljivanje aviona erbas 330 košta između četiri i pet miliona dolara mesečno, to je 50 miliona godišnje."
Zar je tesko izguglati?
Aloso AS will take CRJ planes.
Is he... retarded?
Blog trpi sve i svasta. What to say? ✈R✈... KVO✈SYD
Is OHD open 24h? It will be interesting to see if they get a similar schedule to Varna or if it will go during the noon wave.
I'm hoping this will go through as planned but again, so much was promised from them and not fulfilled that every info should be taken with a reserve.
p.s. I am not the Anon with the info on CRJ
OT off.
Still hoping for flights to Kraljevo!

In my opinion, JU should tap into currently unserved markets which have a certain amount of O&D passengers; some of these are secondary Austrian cities as well as some currently unserved destinations in Germany such as Hamburg or Nuremberg. However, the Atr might be too slow and the A319 too heavy and economically uncompetitive- a regional jet is more than needed for such markets.
I think Slovenia is well covered with double daily flights to LJU.
One destination I would consider is Trieste which, even though close to LJU, has enough local demand to justify flights. If not Trieste then there is Venice.
BEG-TRS-BEG
April 2011, 13 flights, 728 pax, 42%.
May 2011, 9 flights, 486 pax, 41%.
Some used to argue that most passengers flying to Trieste used to end up in Slovenia. I don't believe it as at the same time we had.
BEG-LJU-BEG on JP.
April 2011, 28 flights, 1.681 pax.
May 2011, 32 flights, 1.992 pax.
With a competitive fare structure and a decent enough schedule, Trieste could become a nice market for Air Serbia, especially when you add the O&D passengers.
Another gaping whole was the statement in the article that "even Berlin, a city of 4.5 million people not having flights to the US".
Poorly researched and nothing this guy was quoted as saying was checked for its accuracy.
This magazine wouldn't even make it to the outhouse to be used as toilet paper ...
Worse even, was to roll out such a discredited person to throw criticisms at Air Serbia.
I won't even mention what others above have already said about the $50m to lease an A330.
Just goes to show you that some people will go to no ends ...

Thank God some percept OHD for something more than 'tourist airport'.I wrote before on some other article almost the same. The Benelux tourists are coming trough their own network (Corendon, ArkeFly from AMS and Jetairfly from BRU, there was even few charter with Transavia from RTM), now adding Thomas Cook Belgium and to give some different taste, the Israelis.
But rarely who tooks seriuos the numbers of SKP (app.1/3 of the passengers are coming from this region, and back at the days when MAT/Avioimpex operated most of the flight were via SKP (AMS,CPH,STR, GVA, HAM), exept ZRH, VIE (one of them flew directly, don't remember which), DUS.
Kinda like the situation with INI/BEG (maybe the only difference they never even gave INI a chance).
Also JP was flying 4p/w (DC9/320/CRJ) and Balkan to SOF (at some point 7p/w).
The problem back than was the killing of the passengers with the pricing, no order at all, etc.
The numbers are bad for the region but i guess not for transportation; statisticaly OHD has the greatest percent of emigration in the last 7-8 years (almost 1000 a year, about 85% abroad - NL, BEL, ITA, USA...you name it.Even in UAE and Qatar the last 3-4 years). The town went from city with good industry in ex-yu times (>90% employed) to a place called 'tourist one'.Almost the same thing with Struga (ITA,AUS,CH,GER) and especially with Bitola (CAN, AUS, USA - adding the emigration from the 70's till now, unnoficialy the number of people from BT abroad is more then the population in the city itself).
In the 90 min's zone Prilep is the most distanced, right about 90 min's.Even Gostivar (huge diaspora) is in that limit and faster after the Kicevo - Ohrid highway will be finished.
Some people from Korcha and Elbasan are using OHD even now, especially after Wizz got in.
Tirana on the other hand is 3 hrs by car (the part from the border till Elbasan is horror, but then there is highway), but they got lack of LCC there, so it's ok.
@Nemje On it's official site, it says 'generally from 5.30 till 22.30, 24 hrs on request'.JP used to fly to LJU early morning around 5AM and arrived about 1AM.I don't think it will be fidderent for JU if they ask for those midnight hours.
Are you serious? Why on earth would an aircraft need 2 days of maintenance per week?
Cool, thanks.
