As far as I remember, people here were saying TUI brings cheap tourists to Greece which Croatia does not need/want. Can’t Rijeka block TUIfly from coming - they will damage the country’s reputation?

Get off your high horse. No one said that TUI brings cheap guests, and I am on this forum daily. TUI is a huge brand with world reputation, a quality tour operator that is not the cheapest usually, so no need at all to worry about TUI guests. Also TUIfly already serves several Croatian airports.

Cheap guests are still guests. One day they will earn more money and retire in Croatia.

Rijeka Airport is very dangerous airport to land in and take off in Bad weather conditions.Almost all Rijeka citizens remember when Aviogemex Flight 130 crashed on approach to Rijeka Airport because of rough landing in bad weather conditions, killing 118 people and leaving five survivors. Among the victims was the famous and talented Croatian poet Josip Pupačić with his wife and daughter. Please dont fly to Rijeka in BAD Weather conditions TUI airline and be very careful.

    1. Plane which crashed was Tupolev 134 A, with maximum capacity of 84 passengers, so 118 people couldn't be killed in the crash. It is true that RJK is not most favourably located and crosswinds with gusts often close the airport in winter, but there is absolutely no reason to be worried about the safety of passengers on future TUI flights, as well as all others operating from /to RJK, as today's technology and procedures are on much much higher level and cannot be compared to 1970 when Genex crashed on Krk

With the 1970 crash..wasn't the pilot supposed to divert due weather but insisted on trying to land?

    1. It was different times and different rules, laws and procedures compared to today. I personally landed at RJK twice (as passenger ) when the airport was officially closed for bad weather. Btw the crash happened in 1971, my mistake to write 1970

Last week aircraft crash,UTAir flight 579, almost new Boeing 737-800, suffered a runway excursion crash after pilot insisted to landing at Adler/Sochi Airport, Russia.Weather at Sochi was BAD due to the presence of a thunderstorm in the area,The aircraft sustained serious damage beyond repair, damage up to 66million dollars.
The pilot should divert to airport with good weather.
Also Rijeka is dangerous airport to fly in Bad weather conditions.

Every airport is dangerous to fly in bad weather conditions, not only RJK. For the airports which belong to special category, or the people who like to speak about the danger would say extremely dangerous, as for example Funchal on Madeira or Reggio Calabria in Italy i pilots need to pass special additional training in order to operate to those airport. RJK does not belong in this special category so I wouldn't point it out as the only one "dangerous" to fly in bad weather. It goes for all the airports, as I said. And unfortunatelly, no matter of all new technology, trainings and procedures, human factor will always be one contributing or being exclusively responsible for incidents, accidents and crashes, and it can but not necessarily have to do anything with the bad weather.

Pretty sure that this wont be operated by TUIfly (now TUIfly Deutschland) since they aren't based in the UK. It'll be TUI Airways doing this route. Not sure why there is a picture of a TUIfly Belgium aircraft. Also, airlines are fully aware of the safe requirements for landing into an airport based on the weather and winds vs the aircraft capability, and wouldn't attempt a landing if unsafe.
