NEWS FLASH

Belgrade Nikola Tesla has completed most of the work on the reconfiguration of its access plateau and has opened curbside drop-off in front of its new central processor building. It marks the first time taxis, busses and cars have been given access in front of the entrance of the terminal building in over three years. The airport has opened a “Kiss & Fly” zone in front of the departures drop-off area, enabling cars to stop for five minutes. Both the departures and arrivals level now have designated stops for public transport, taxis and tour operator busses. The taxi station has also been moved to the arrivals level of the central processor building. The airport will shortly open three new car parks – P1, a premium parking that is closest to the terminal with 120 parking spaces, P2 with 370 parking spaces, including designated parking spaces for those with disability, as well as P3, which features around ninety parking spaces and will be available only to those who have previously booked a parking space online. As EX-YU Aviation News learns, part of the premium parking will be dedicated to Air Serbia’s business class passengers, from which they will be able to enter the new facility via the bridge. In addition, the airport’s three other car parks – the covered multi-storey car park with 500 parking positions, the car park near the cargo terminal with 200 parking positions and the remote Tesla carpark with 780 car park positions, from which passengers are shuttled to the terminal, continue to operate normally.

So totally tally for current expansion is?
2060 car parking spots, 120 check in counters and terminal raised from 33000sqm to 56000sqm, and a new runway that will be converted in to taxiway once old runway is resurfaced-upgraded. Did I get that right?

Question is, why couldn't they build a 2nd runway on the other side where there are empty fields? also, why not knock down useless 2nd terminal and build brand spanking new terminal?

No, it wasn't like that. The whole access plateau had to be reconfigured, including the slopes and installations and a viaduct built. Also, it was not possible to complete the access roads until the central processor was completed.

Whilst the changes are welcome indeed the overall feel and flow of the airport will never be particularly nice. An improvement indeed but cetainly not a wonder of design in any way. It fact many architects could write books on the flaws of its design.
The redevelopment by Vinci has been very poorly managed in regards to the access to the airport during redevelopment. The chaos in front of the terminal could have been far better handled in the past few years.

You rememner completely incorrectly. The project shows a park behind the car parks (in front lf the central processor) and there will be one. If you can't remember the project correctly, I suggest you look at the renders again before spreading misinformation.

I have to admit that I also see a lot of greenery in the render, and everything looks quite beautiful, while in the picture, all I see is concrete. It seems that we all perceive and experience space differently. To me, this looks overly concrety!

Because none of you actually looked at the render carefully. And the green surfaces will get trees. You can already notice that they put hanging plants on the deartures level. And there will be a park. But completely agree with one comment, I wonder to which airport in the world you went to sit under a tree around the airport building

Wait and see is not the common sense, that's the losing strategy. It was "wait and see" with first operational problems and now the ministry had to step in. Don't wait and see, act proactively, anticipate and face the events: that's common sense.

Stop complaining about everything. You pick up people by using the parking lot. Only busses and taxis are allowed on arrivals level. It was like this before and it is like this at all normal airports in the world. Or you expect to drive your car up into the arrivals area do you?

      Couple of normal, non-Serbian airports:

LAX: Picking Up: Passengers may be picked up on the outer curb on the lower level/arrivals level outside of baggage claim

MEL: Terminal 1, 2 & 3 passengers can be collected from the pick-up zone located on the ground level of the Terminal 1, 2 & 3 forecourt.

BEG airport, having most recent terminal 2 designed in the 70's, lacked many features such as curbside pickup. One would expect new terminal building and roadways would include some of those features. Since they are not planned, some people will try to use Kiss&Fly area to also pick up arriving passengers.

People didn't have mobile phones when old terminal was made. Now they will call friend or relative when they are outside. They will wait on the side of the access roads for pickup, creating more chaos. Smart plan would include free pickup zone instead.

I'm at BEG right now and have to admit the flow is less than ideal. Firstly, all the signs still point to drop-off at P3 and by the time you realise there's a new accessway, it's too late to make the turn. Also, it rained for literally half an hour and there are already puddles everywhere on the parking, making it very difficult to exit the car.

That said, I absolutely love the fact that priority lane also includes priority access to passport control, which is very rarely the case at airports around the world. I was through both that and security in less than 5 minutes.

A bit off-topic, but what is going on with bus 72? I've used it 8 times in the last 3-4 months, and just once it arrived on time. 2 weeks ago, one bus didn't show up, the next departure was 30 min late, so overall it was like more than an hour of waiting in a huge crowd at the stop, which turned into stampedo as soon as bus door opened

I guess cars have to park, go out and wait for you passenger, which is fine to me, since it's 15min free, but that parking was not working in good flow lately, exit gets clogged very often.
