NEWS FLASH

Swiss International Air Lines will introduce an additional two weekly flights between Zurich and Ljubljana for a total of eleven weekly rotations. The new services will commence from the week starting September 4. The carrier will maintain double daily flights on the route from Monday through to Thursday, with one flight per day on the remaining three days of the week. Swiss runs its Ljubljana service with a mix of A220s, A320s and Embraer E190 E2 jets, with the latter being operated by Helvetic Airways. Last year, Swiss handled 57.150 passengers on its Ljubljana flights.

The capacity is at 2018 levels, the timetable sadly isn't

But timetable is much more important then capacity itself. With those departures at 11am they are not bringing much to Slovenian connectivity.

I hope that with winter timetable we get morning departure similar to what FRA and CDG already are.
Does LX operate any of those in our region already?

LX is already working on 3 waves ops. U see that on their 3 different flt numbers to LJU. Step by step they will increase. As soon more widebody flights will be added, we will see shorthaul ops expanding. New dest are expected to be published this year. Currently ICN KIX IAD YYZ BLR are in the game. 2025 first A350 will join LX too and it is expected that China ops will increase. Most probl PVG.

We all know that best connect are between 0900-1200h. So we are missing tons of destinations because of late departure (PVG, ORD, BOM, NYC, YYC,...).

I think only BEG has some earlier flights, they leave ZRH at 06.55 so from BEG they leave before 09.00.
Since LJU is much closer I think BEG and LJU depart in the same wave.

I don't think many Slovenes will rush to fly to China via ZRH with JU's upcoming China expansion. With PEK, TSN, CAN and PVG offered in winter, BEG will be very competitive from LJU. It also helps that BEG doesn't require a backtrack. JU also does really well in LJU with transfers.

I think SLO is connected enough. If anyone thinks it is not, they can always buy stocks and create a new carrier. No problem. Put their money where their mouth is. They can even put Alenka Bratušek as CEO. And other former Adria CEOs, of which there are many(!), as “consultants”.

So someone who thinks an airline is important and needs it should pay for it? So why should I "finance" lets say a new hospital in Lendava, which I'm never going to use it? Only people in Lendava should pay for it. And same for trains. I never use them. So why should I pay for them. Collect money together for new rails and trains (gonna cost you A LOT). "Put your money where your mouth is" is great logic. I hope you never run for prime minister.

Excuse me but besides its network, LX is no way better than JU. Have you flown recently on Swiss? Basically it's trash like Lufthansa or Austrian. You don't even get a bottle of water, they literally hand out a glass of water with a 20 g chocolate. So much wow!

Yes but JU has better legroom and a more comfy seat plus their onboard product is better. JU's menu is cheaper and has a greater selection of food and drinks. Also on segments longer than 2 hours you get a complimntary snack on JU, on LX you don't. It's only on flights longer than 3 hours.

Overnight LJU costs the airline hotel, transfer and expenses

If the market is there and the airline has the resources, they will start operating. Give them time. The probl is YU markets are not high yield markets. So why reduce elsewhere to increase YU or LJU if yields are not there?

LX has over-nights in many central and eastern european capitals. So no reason why not to do it in LJU. Swiss is the most useful hub for intra-Europe destinations as FRA is almost useless due to LH price policy (they attract only long haul pax out of LJU, european destinations are priced at around 1000 EUR even when the flight is still empty).

So now we see that LX doesn't plan on coming back to ZAG. In a short period of time this is the second or third carrier which chose LJU over ZAG. Other two being Luxair and Finnair which boosted LJU while reducing ZAG.

ZAG management needs to ask themsevels serious questions about their fee hike and if the time is right to reconsider their decision. Now LJU will have more capacity to ZRH than ZAG!

Swiss Tax Payers rescued SR LX with 2 bln CHF, to sell it later for peanuts to LH and last 15 years they made huge profits by cutting service. They paid 400 mio and ROI was 15 x higher. Superbe deal for LH.
