NEWS FLASH

Luxembourg’s flag carrier Luxair has reduced operations on its flights between the Grand Duchy and Ljubljana over the coming winter season, which begins on October 27 and runs until March 30 of next year. The airline will suspend flights on the route between November 3 and December 19 after which services will operate twice per week until January 5. Operations will then be suspended again until February 16 when they will be restored twice per week. All flights will run with the 76-seat Dash 8 aircraft. Last winter season, Luxair maintained two weekly rotations between the two capitals throughout the season. Further changes remain possible.

Do you really think that such a small airport is of any importance to LH? Please. Far away from main centers of people. Connectivity very poor. The main problem is geography not Fraport. Look at Fraport at SKG. Booming airport.

In other news from Ljubljana. Kompas had to cancel a few rotations, because White doesn't want to operate their flights, and KlasJet had another contract for their 737-500 from 1.7 on. They will now be paying DOUBLE premium from Saturday on for another KlasJet plane

In summer they could quite literally fill 737s in November, January and February last year there were about 35pax for every rotation. If they used ATRs it would be a net zero, but with Dash 8 it's just not worth it

Judging how there is no new incentives tender published, it looks like Cyprus will take over routes, once they get those 2 additional A220, the one grounded will be back in service by mid this month

It just shows that there's no demand during those times. Would you operate your company at a loss when you can avoid doing that? I know I would as I'd not be in it to lose money, but to make money. Having a national company wouldn't fix anything. Demand would still be low, ticket prices would probably be even higher (as they were) and the only thing the airline would do is burn government money. I actually welcome this kind of decisions, because it shows that the companies who fly take measures to survive. That means that they can keep coming back and back and back, instead of in X years filing for insolvency due to flying empty planes in low season just because 3 people wanted to fly to LUX or via LUX at that time.

It didn't dissappear. LJU - LUX had had quite dissapointing load factors last winter so this year they decided not to risk it again. Summer season was great though, so I'm sure the line will survive long term.

It's very frustrating, people in this part of the world want the freedom and money associated with the west, yet cling to Communist mentality in loving loss making companies and believe in throwing money away on vanity projects. The real world functions on profit and loss and cutting services that do not yield a profit is what happens.
