Spanish low cost carrier Vueling has filed a tentative schedule for entry into the Slovenian market with the launch of flights between Barcelona and Ljubljana starting November 16. Based on its preliminary timetable, the route will be maintained twice per week on Thursdays and Sundays, with the Airbus A320 aircraft. Starting December 9, the route is expected to increase to three weekly with an additional rotation on Tuesdays, which will be maintained until January 6, after which services will return to a two weekly schedule. Tickets are yet to be put on sale. If its plans materialise it will mark a return for Vueling in Ljubljana, with the airline having previously briefly served the city in June, July and August of 2010.

Based on indirect traffic volumes, there is strong demand for flights between the Iberian Peninsula to the Slovenian capital. Services between Madrid and Ljubljana were introduced on a limited summer basis by Vueling’s parent company Iberia last summer. However, Barcelona sees the highest demand between Ljubljana on the Iberian Peninsula. Flights are currently maintained as charters, operated on behalf of tour operators by Trade Air. The route was last maintained on a scheduled basis by former flag carrier Adria Airways, which linked the two cities seasonally over the summer from 2006 until 2012 with two to three weekly flights.

Vueling has filed a tentative schedule to indicate its intention to launch the service and reserve airport slots, however, tickets are not yet available for purchase. Although flights have been added into the Global Distribution System. This means the route is still subject to final confirmation and may undergo changes before being officially announced. Filing a schedule is a common industry practice used to coordinate with airports and plan operations, but it does not guarantee that the route will be launched as initially proposed. The preliminary schedule can be found here. If the service launches as planned, it will be the second new route from Ljubljana to Spain this upcoming winter, with airBaltic introducing a weekly rotation to Las Palmas.

Amazing, it took only 10 years for Fraport to get BCN route (also flights are not on sale) while every other airport had those flights for years. Bravo!

Could this move by VY encourage FR to either make Girona year round from ZAG or even better launch BCN itself as well?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous09:18

Why would VY encourage FR to expand in ZAG? Makes no sense. This is a way to hurt both them and OU by stopping the outflow of passengers from Slovenia.
Even OU is extending their BCN flights so the market is obviously there.

Lier. No one ever said that. People were just saying Slovenes are not majority of passengers in Zagreb. Normal people make diferrence between the two. Mean people twist facts, manipulate and lie. Have a nice day.

Thank you, I will have a nice day.
People were so angry when everyone here said that most passengers on EK were Slovenes. Then the route failed and FZ launched LJU. Today they have almost as many passengers from LJU as they have from ZAG.

Most passengers on EK from ZAG were Australian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Middle Eastern.
Followed by Croatian and Slovenian. EK discontinued ZAG flights because of Covid and today FZ have again more flights and more passengers to ZAG than to LJU. And you lie, manipulate and twist facts once again. Have a nice evening!

It is extremely rare for an airline to announce the launching of flights and at the last minute to change its decision. You can always hope though.
