NEWS FLASH
Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have emerged as some of the busiest transfer markets on Turkish Airlines’ Australian services. The carrier operates flights from Istanbul to both Sydney and Melbourne.
Based on booking data for the period between April 2025 and March 2026, Skopje was the second-largest source of transfer passengers on Turkish Airlines’ Sydney service, while Belgrade ranked fourth and Ohrid seventh. London was the route’s largest source market.
Over the same period, Ohrid was the seventh-largest source of transfer passengers on the Melbourne service, followed by Sarajevo in eighth place and Belgrade in ninth. London once again topped the list.

Ohrid is a surprising one
ReplyDeleteMost of Macedonia's Australian community is from Ohrid area.
Deleteyou mean Pelagonia? OHD serves this region
Delete@10.30 indeed
DeleteBITOLA
DeleteWhat about it?
DeleteFirst Macedonian immigrants in Aussie are from Ohrid,Bitola,Kicevo,Prilep,Struga,Gostivar,Debar, than are Skopje and rest of the cities. But yes all those passengers are from that region not from Skopje , they were using Skopje as point to come and go , now they use Ohrid which is great and close to their homes
Deleteuhm hello Qatar Airways?
ReplyDeleteFor me they were around 1000$ higher than Turkish - Singapore combo, and the flight time at the time of the booking was only an hour and half shorter.
Deleteinteresting that SKP is not in the Top 10 to MEL or am i missing something
ReplyDeleteAny link to see full list of these or other transit flights?
ReplyDelete😂was literally googling this the last 5 mins
DeleteSYD: London, Skopje, Athens, Belgrade, Rome, Paris, Ohrid, Berlin, Beirut, and Warsaw
DeleteMEL: London, Athens, Rome, Izmir, Ankara, Adana, Ohrid, Sarajevo, Belgrade, and Paris
Interesting to see how strong demand there is both from SYD and MEL on a global level, I mean huge cities like Paris Rome and Berlin are behind SKP, and OHD is in between. Definitely there is room for one middle east to start flying to SKP again
Deletebut Paris and Rome have many options to choose from unlike Skopje but I do agree with the latter
Deletebit hard to believe that OHD has more pax to MEL than SKP
DeleteYou don't believe then
Deletethey didnt even fly to OHD the whole winter. In the same time there are more Macedonians in Victoria than in NSW. Would not be the first time there was a mistake from SF
DeleteAustralian diaspora rarely flies to visit during winter. They go during European summer when it is winter in Australia and stay in Australia during the summer there. You obviously don't know much about the diaspora there.
Deleteits not only a one-way traffic
DeleteFlyDubai and Qatar Airways are still waiting for the return to Skopje…..
ReplyDeletewell now with the Iran thing going this is definitely postponed for some time
DeleteTAV will never let them to come back to SKP exactly because of all this transfer from IST and TK to Australia and Asia undertsand that
DeleteLol Nejat Kurt is literally involved in the talks. What a stupid conspiracy nonsence
DeleteInvolved in which talks ? You believe him ? Good just believe in that
Deleteno, we believe in you and чаршија
DeleteAviation is not turska serija ...
Deletehttps://www.airports.com.mk/en-EN/media-centre/press-releases/page/tav-macedonia-participated-in-road-shows-in-finland-and-norway-aiming-to-open-new-direct-flights-to-the-scandinavian-countries
"and is working intensively on restoring connections with the Middle East, namely Doha and Dubai, to expand the airline network and strengthen the connectivity of the two Macedonian airports."
Yes 3 years same talks and there is no even sign of Flydubai to come to Macedonia , thats why nobody believes in what they are saying!!!
Deleteis croatian diaspora avoiding TK or what :) I know there are QR and FZ
ReplyDeleteFrom Croatia you have Qatar which offers the best connections, followed by flyDubai and then you have Star Alliance. Croatia Airlines and Lufthansa shuttle passengers to Australia via Singapore through Frankfurt, Zurich and London where passengers connect onto Singapore airlines. British Airways is also popular for ZAG-LHR-SIN-SYD. And finally I know several people who went by car to Budapest and then flew from there on a Chinese airlines down to Australia.
DeleteYou have Qatar and Flydubai (more than doubly the number of flights than ZAG) from Belgrade as well.
DeleteBacktracking to LHR, FRA or ZRH and changing planes twice makes little sense to me.
DeleteThink QR and Flydubai should be the best options...even travelling to BUD by car makes more sense to me than flying to LHR first and then change planes in SIN....
i guess they simply dont fly to their ex-homeland that often as others.
DeleteI am so desperate to find data avout this. Is there any platform where this kind of data is published?
ReplyDeleteYes, OAG provides this data. It is an expensive subscription service, mainly used by airlines.
DeleteMaybe we can share a password?
DeleteSomeone is going to pay 10 000 EUR per year to share a password... right
DeleteWould have not expected Ohrid on this list but nice to see. Is TK even still flying to OHD?
ReplyDeleteyes during peak summer and now we know why
DeleteYes their first flight is scheduled for 23th June and last one is 4th of October
DeleteYes because all of those people living in Australia are origin from Ohrid such as Bitola,Prilep, Struga, and thats roughly 200k + people plus around 50k from the other cities in Macedonia
DeleteNow everyone understand why Flydubai and Qatar airways will never come back to Skopje ? I hope this info will open your mind to people saying no Turkish airlines doesnt have anything with their return ....
ReplyDeleteQuite the opposite
DeleteTAV will never open a chance for other carrier to overtake those transfers to Australia and Asia now when Turkish airlines flying there .... thats the reality that nobody accepts!!
DeleteLMAo
Deleteplot twist: Qatar Airways launches OHD instrad of SKP
ReplyDeleteThere was talks with Airarabia to start both Skopje and Ohrid to Dubai or Abu dhabi but nothing happening ... :/
DeleteIt should not surpising for Macedonia to rate in the top ten as there are not so many options to travel between two countries as it is case for other ex yu countries. But nice to see two cities in top for both destinations
ReplyDeletePretty much The balkans feed both routes. Now we have to see TK deploying their aircrafts to Bne(via Kul) Adl(via Bkk or Dps) , Per (Dps)
