Adria plans Klagenfurt base

Klagenfurt will become Adria’s latest international base

Adria Airways plans to open a third base outside of Slovenia in the city of Klagenfurt in Austria’s south, close to the Slovenian boarded. It comes only days after the airline revealed it would open a base in Verona, Italy next summer season. Adria has offered to station an aircraft in Austria’s sixth largest city and is awaiting the airport’s response to the proposal. Klagenfurt is only some ninety kilometres north of the Slovenian capital. “We see it as our home market. We are focused on the Alpe-Adria region. Besides Slovenia we focus on southern Austria, eastern Italy and parts of Croatia”, Adria Airways CEO Mark Anžur told the “Austrian Aviation” portal at a recent European Regions Airline Association meeting in Salzburg.

It will be up to Klagenfurt Airport to decide which routes Adria will launch from the city. Despite plans to open bases in Verona and Klagenfurt and the launch of nonstop services from Tirana to Frankfurt next summer, the airline has no plans to expand from Maribor Airport in Slovenia. “It is not that simple to launch flights from Maribor without the support of the local community. Currently, there are no resources”, Mr. Anžur says. He adds the airline will focus on Verona where it will base a Bombardier CRJ200 because it is underserved, particularly for business travellers. As a result, it will offer daily flights to Brussels, Vienna and Zurich. On the other hand, Adria has recognised Albania as a growing market with great potential for future development.

In the future, Adria plans to ease its reliance on smaller aircraft with plans to sell two out of four of its CRJ200s by the end of 2015. “The CRJ200s are only suitable for the development of new routes”, the CEO says. The Slovenian carrier plans to replace them with CRJ900 aircraft. The Airbus A320 and two A319s the airline currently operates will remain as part of its fleet in the coming years.

OT: Etihad will send their A330-200 on Monday 14.10. instead of regular A319. What is the reason for that upgrade I don't have a clue. Maybe some personnel returning from or going to training in AUH?

Well, the personnel that is in Abu Dhabi should be returning soon but they are not that many for the airline to send its A330-200.
Still, I hope there will be someone to take pictures of it.

According to Etihad it's because of operational reasons, God knows what they mean by that.

^ The same reason as for Turkish widebodies in Skopje probably:
Sometimes these ac sit around on the tarmac unused and make no money...
But ac have to be in the air to be profitable!

They maybe also want to test BEG airport if it is able to handle the cargo on board of such type.

I think the reason for A330 in Skopje (possibly Belgrade) is the Muslim pilgrimage, the hajj to Mecca.

What does Belgrade have to do with Hajj? If anyone is going from Serbia then they will just fly from Pristina.

Erm... won't this directly affect their loads in Ljubljana? I mean, it is known that Klagenfurt is a competing airport for Ljubljana.

Spreading there coverage in a radius from LJU is a good idea. If someone wants to fly from KLU why not fly on JP

According to their website the online discontinued service they have is Austrian Airlines on Vienna route, the rest are charter and seassonal flights. Also the Ryanair is leaving from November so Adria will have not much competition.
I am pointing INI as their mini hub with few routes once MGX leave the INI-TGD.

It makes me wonder how they plan on making it work if Ryanair didn't; not to mention that they flew to the only European city which can sustain direct flights to pretty much anywhere, London.

All this news about Adria's new bases tell us a lot. It seems that Adria realised that LJU airport will be privatised soon or later – but for sure before itself. It will never be the same and so easy for Adria anymore. Most of LJU stategies, new lines, etc were in matter to protect Adria. New owner for sure won't be so nice to Adria as he will seek for more profit and bring new airlines at the airport. Adria will still be the biggest but just one among. Good luck Adria and congatulaions for this brave step.

Well, according to ex-YU, Ljubljana was selling really well during the promotional ticket sale. That's another blow for Adria which will be forced out of Belgrade in less than a year. The airline must become more competitive otherwise it will be defeated in any base it launches.

    Klagenfurt-Adria

    Why not Austrian Tyrolean etc??
If there is income possible for sure it's not Adria to get first.
If positive balance in Klagenfurt is not possible: welcome Adria and henkipenki companies not working in the real world.

It will not work just a wet dream
or planned Adria disinformation in the sytle "we will do this and that" so "support us" with MORE MONEY.

Ex Klagenfurt charters to the sun destinations that's all that can be done. Even London is hard from there.

People, I'm getting tired of all those comments, having no clue on social factors, and deminishing the aviation to a railway hobby.

Before judjing Adria's plans in Austria and bringing in some silly connections with the privatisation of LJU, or Jat's plans in Belgrade, you could just easily put out some of basic knowladge from Yugoslav schools. Slovenia concider the Southern Austrian province of Carinthia or Korushka, with Klagenfurt being the capital city, as its historical ethnical theritory.

B&H Airlines will resume flights to Belgrade! They will depart the latest by 06.00 so that they can offer connections in Belgrade.
They should start in late October and in 2014 they will be daily. This means that BEG-SJJ will be up to three times per day.

I guess BEG has become the main transit point for passengers heading to/from Bosnia and Herzegovina since there will be up to five daily flights.

With Air Serbia and B&H Airlines what does this mean for OU and JP in SJJ?

    3. Anonymous22:18

So in summer 2x Air Serbia, and 1x BH Airlines. and 1x daily to BNX. That's 4

    4. Anonymous09:29

This is a very good move by B&H Airlines. Since they are facing tough competition on their route to Istanbul, it's important for them to have at least another route where they will know their loads will be good no matter what.

personally, i would be very glad to see the establishment of a common BiH, Serbia, Montengro, Macedonia airliner, or a margening of JU, YM, BiH with taking the Maceodnian market as well. It´s a trusted market zone, with a lot of personal, business and familly realations, it would overwhelm the province character of all current national airlines, and make sense for developing a real airliner, with techicians, pilot school etc. etc.
