Adria cabin crew call off strike

Friday, May 29, 2015

Adria Airways' cabin crew members have called off planned industrial action for Monday, June 1, as talks with the management continue. The next round of negotiations are scheduled to take place next Tuesday at noon. In October 2014, Adria’s trade unions were informed that all collective agreements would be annulled if they failed to agree on new cost cutting measures by the end of the year. Since all of the airline’s unions rejected the measures, the collective agreements have now been terminated, while terms of the new agreements, which will come into effect next year, are unacceptable to Adria’s crew members. A provisional deal between the union and the managment was agreed during the week, however, no further details were given. In a statement, Adria Airways said it was happy with the breakthrough and was looking forward to continuing talks on a comprehensive agreement "which will provide a positive working environment for the cabin staff". The demands from the trade union reportedly include timely payment of salaries as envisaged by the collective agreement, respect of mandatory breaks for cabin staff, regulation of overtime work, an end to illegal fixed-term hiring and the adoption of a program for managing cabin crew fatigue. The trade union also wants staff to be allowed greater flexibility in taking leave and fixes to "balance" the pay system.
