NEWS FLASH

Leading German aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines has announced plans to build a repair facility in the town of Stara Pazova near Belgrade. MTU is one of the five biggest providers of maintenance services for commercial aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines. One third of the world's commercial aircraft fleet relies on components delivered by the company. Among other activities, it designs, develops, produces and provides support for engines for commercial and military aircraft. MTU has a leading role in providing maintenance services for the V2500 engine, which powers Airbus A320 jets and is used by Air Serbia, among others. MTU's CEO, Michael Schreyogg, said Serbia would become their hub for servicing aircraft engines, with the company to purchase land for the construction of the facility this summer. It will initially employ some 450 people. The company was founded in 1934 in Munich and has 10.000 employees. Its annual revenue stands at 4.6 billion euros.

Very nice. MTU is a huge company. Almost every Airbus and Boeing passenger plane has their components.

Not bad! I notice it's near the AFB at Batajnica, does that mean planes coming in for service will land there?

Doubt so, its engine parts....not even the whole engines are supposed to go there, but when needed they will be trucked from Jat Tehnika (wheree partly disasembled to load) or elsewhere. So being close to a motorway is crucial.

How are these engines delivered? By road or air? I am sure cargo will boom.

Good news for Serbia. This will definitely contribute to the economy. I think MTU is quite similar to the Latécoère plant in Plovdiv. It's now cheaper for those big companies to open plants in poorer countries. Either way, it's definitely good news.

Fantastic news! One of the biggest in ex-YU really. I am sure they will also cooperate with Jat Tehnika to use their facilities at BEG.
