NEWS FLASH

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, has held talks with Emir Pineda, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Miami International Airport, and Gerard Philippeaux, Executive Director for Trade of Miami-Dade County. The two sides discussed the planned new Air Serbia service between Belgrade and Miami and said the new route would boost travel and commerce between the Balkans, the Caribbean and Latin America. There was also discussion around the export potential of Serbian food and agricultural products to the US and Caribbean markets using the flights, as well as opportunities for faster cargo transport to and from the Balkans and the European Union.

Air Serbia has yet to officially confirm the launch of flights to Miami. Its CEO, Jiri Marek, recently told EX-YU Aviation News, “It’s a complex decision. But I would still say Miami is the next logical step. When we’ll make that call is hard to say, sometimes we surprise even ourselves with how quickly things move”. He also shared further insights into the potential route, available here.

The problem is the one sided cargo moves. Europe fills the planes to the US, but the return is often difficult. Some carriers combine it with Mexico, others like Amerijet ex MIA to BRU have Latam and Carribean origin on it. Challenge Air imports lots of military stuff on their JFK-LGG-TLV flights. The US to Europe rates are low, we from Europe to the US pay now around 1.80 to 3.00 EUR/kg, during Winter timetable higher, around 3 to 5.00 EUR/kg. Q4 of 2024 was even extreme with cargo rates ex EUR averaging 5 EUR per kg. (Just GEN Cargo, no temperature control, express or dangerous goods)
These are the freighter rates. Passenger plane rates are different and usually lower than freighter plane rates. Seeing that Kalitta stopped the AMSEWR freighter already in Dec 2023 and ASL LGGJFK around same time, I think it would be rather challenging to justify US headed Freighter plane operated flights. Other thing is the E-Commerce business ex China. Freighter Carriers tend to use their capacity for those flights, as they are more profitable.

I lived in Miami over 10 years, and people in Serbia is still unable to understand, that there is a Serbian food on the shelfs. Usually in smaller or international markets. In South Beach, you can buy from Prolom voda to all kinds candies from Serbia.

It was struck by a vehicle. Not more has been said about it.
We are waiting for the Naples MRO facility to fix whatever needs fixing.
The only issue is that they usualy take a lot of time to do their job. See YU-ARC.
