NEWS FLASH

A Cessna 525 CitationJet belonging to Croatian charter carrier Air Pannonia skidded off the runway at Zagreb Airport this afternoon which has led to a temporary suspension of all air traffic. The incident occurred at 15:21 local time. The 27-year-old aircraft, registered 9A-JIM, arrived from Milan Linate Airport. It veered off the runway during landing and came to a stop on a grassy area at the runway’s edge. Airport emergency services responded immediately, and preparations are currently underway to safely remove the aircraft. As part of standard procedures following such events, Zagreb Airport has been temporarily closed to all arriving and departing flights until further notice. Air Pannonia has confirmed that the jet was not carrying any passengers at the time of the incident and that there were no injuries. Zagreb Airport has issued an apology to passengers for delays and disruptions, assuring the public that updates will be provided as soon as operations resume.

As of 22:00 local time, the airport is still closed for departures and arrivals with a number of emergency vehicles on the runway. A number of flights that were due to land at Zagreb Airport during the afternoon were diverted. These include KLM's service from Amsterdam and Air Serbia's from Belgrade, which landed in Ljubljana, Lufthansa's operation from Frankfurt and Ryanair's from Rome, which diverted to Vienna, as well as Croatia Airlines' flight from Skopje, which landed in Zadar,

This helps explain the need for two runways that can be operated at the same time at busy airports like Zagreb; or at least redundant runways where one runway can operate while the other one is closed for incident like this one.

I have a ticket for JU604 for today. We are still in the airport. We embarked in 20.30, and now we got out of the plane because we didn't get approval to take off.

ZAG is currently listed as #1 on global airport disruption list at flightradar 24. This affects all airlines, both arrivals and departures.

It is always and everywhere such slow procedure. CAA inspection has to make observations and reports. Maintenance has to provide solution how to move aircraft without tyre. You can not push it to a side like old golf. For now aircraft damage is minimal but moving it without tyre it starts to be calculated in 5-6 zeroes of eur.. so do it blame stupid airport who didn’t call local towing company with truck to clear the runway.
Bigger problem is bad organisation of local carrier but that also can be problematic for them as nobody, probably still, doesn’t know when it will be are. If. It flying with CA you are even in deeper problem as due to savings, most of the companies do not have their representatives and live airport without any info or even what to do.with passengers. Dear passenger, check your rights for reimbursement due to cancellation or long delay….

It has really been a mess with no public notices, no information and long lines of customers waiting for their turn just to hear that they have to rezerve a hotel and maybe come tomorrow morning to check the situation. All today’s flight by Croatia Airlines just now has been confirmed to be cancelled, they were still doing checkins for late hour flights just minutes ago. I hope only that tomorrow isn’t a total mess but judging by today standards and the number of passengers expected, I’m not very hopeful.
