Montenegro’s new national airline, Air Montenegro, will commence scheduled operations on June 10 with flights from Podgorica and Tivat to Belgrade. In order to launch services, the carrier will initially utilise a single Embraer E195 jet, previously operated by Montenegro Airlines. With exception to the first few days when the timetable differs, the airline will maintain six weekly flights between Podgorica and Belgrade, as well as twelve weekly rotations between Tivat and the Serbian capital. The aircraft will be deployed in W rotations from Belgrade to serve both Podgorica and Tivat. Technically, Air Montenegro will have its inaugural flight to Sarajevo on June 1, however, however, this will be a special charter operated on behalf of the Montenegrin national football team which will partake in an international friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tickets for the new Belgrade flights are now on sale. Despite initial announcements that the carrier will operate on low cost model, it will offer passengers both economy and business class fares. Economy class passengers will have a generous 23 kilograms included in their ticket, as well as free date changes up to one day prior to departure. Business class passengers will be able to check in two pieces of luggage up to 23 kilograms each, as well as change travel dates at any time and be issued refunds. There is currently only a single fare type for business and economy class.
The airline will add more routes, as well as a second E195 jet, in the coming weeks. Air Montenegro’s aircraft will be painted in the airline’s corporate livery (pictured above) during the 2021/2022 winter season, which begins in October. As previously reported, the start-up carrier will initially operate its two jets in an all-white scheme. Air Montenegro’s CEO, Predrag Todorović, said Montenegro Airlines’ livery was “fantastic”, which is why the company has kept the eagle logo from its predecessor. The airline's branding will be rolled out in phases. It will first be visible on the carrier’s recently launched website, after which it will be applied onto its fleet.

DeleteAll ticket sales are routed via an agency that takes a €20 commission. That's why their flights can't be cheap. Return flight can't be under €85 when you factor in the agency and airport taxes. Basically they were earning €0 from these promo fares they had.

DeleteI dont think they will take much. Its highly rushed, practically no marketing and a google search doesnt show the website, rather first to pop up is the YM website which doesn't work. Im sure a fair few will want to test out the new airline, just like people booked tickets with JU when they used them on regional familiarisation flights.

Branding looks so bad and cheap and on the other hand JU is additionally doing extra adds and campaigns for TIV and PGD ( they even scheduled A330 for one flight), I feel like Air Serbia is going to be very aggressive this summer because they practically now own Montenegrin market after YM collapsed and won’t let passengers switch to other airline. I just don’t want this to be YM2 story, sooner or later Air Montenegro will have to play by JU’s rules...

DeleteIts a highly rushed concept. Weve seen over the years alot of start ups, including national carriers - Air Bosna, B&H Airlines, MAT to name a couple. The 'better' carriers in the region are still dependent on government support. Just a couple of points why there isn't soo much enthusiasm. Don't get me wrong, I wish them all the best, however I think its a highly rushed project that will bring them back to where they were with YM.

Let's see if they will reconsider reintroducing LIS and not just focus on nearby cities. LIS has more potential, especially in summer and similar what we saw with Air Astana the other day, MNE needs medium-haul flights to sustain its network.

I don't think we Serbs have much to gain from that especially since JU is routing all those passenger to fly via BEG where Serbian crew are hired, taxes are paid to the Serbian government and so on. I am sure that one of the first things the new airline would be forced to do is introduce intercontinental flights from ZAG no matter what. It would be politics over business every day.

ReplyDeleteThe business model is much better than previous company. They focus on routes where they can make money year round. Summer season is the bonus. They will have good utilisation. They got a good deal on planes, which is a good start. They should outsource as much as possible and switch to digital sales completely.
Having said that, Air Serbia will likely dump the prices to make the life hard for the startup.
They rushed because if they missed the summer, the project would be done before taking off.
There is no way no one in the company didn't realize how bad that air-monte-negro looks like. A PR and a marketing disaster.
