Serbia and Montenegro have agreed with the European Union to deny permission to any aircraft operated by Belarusian air carriers to land in, take off from, or overfly their territories following Minsk's forced diversion of a Ryanair flight last month that allowed for the arrest of a dissident journalist. Belarus’ national carrier Belavia, which had maintained scheduled services to both Belgrade and Tivat, had already been forced to suspend its flights to the two cities last month due to its inability to overfly other European Union-member states in order to reach the airspace of either Serbia or Montenegro. The ban was also adopted this week by other non-EU European states including Macedonia, Albania, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
