Zagreb Airport sees busiest October

Zagreb Airport welcomed 351.133 passengers last month, marking its busiest October on record. The figure represents an increase of 6.2% on the pre-pandemic 2019 and growth of 9.4% on last year. During the January - October period, Zagreb Airport handled 3.168.601 travellers, up 7.2% and 20.8% on 2019 and 2022 respectively.

      When you get a FR base with three aircraft then having 6% growth is really not much. Look at what happened when Wizz came to places like Sofia, Belgrade, Tirana or even Skopje.

      It is extremely important for Zagreb what was growth percentage of Talinn, Vilnus, Riga, Lisbon or Malta but it is not important that Zagreb is far behind Belgrade, Skopje, Tirana...

      Very little grow for ZAG. As you can see once again, Belgrade and Skopje have the biggest increase in pax numbers, smth that nobody belived when i said few days ago. Ljubljana is still recovering from its busiest year and has a long way till they reach the same levels as in 2018 and not to talk about new records…

      Of course Ryanair even though they had less seats on sale, the LF of that capacity was bigger then CTN. If CTN had 65% LF that is around 100k seats which is 30k less then what FR offered and had last month.

      CTN did not have 65% LF in October long time ago. October LF is usually much above 70%. Annual average LF is around 65% that takes into calculation months of February, March and November with very low LF.

      CTN flies to cities where Ryanair doesn't, even close to those cities. LF to Split and Dubrovnik in October was one of highest in CTN history so if you do not have correct information please stop writing misleading information.

    Considering Croatia Airlines' load factor and Ryanair's load factor, I would not be surprised if they were neck and neck in actual passenger traffic in October. I am pretty sure Ryanair will overtake Croatia Airlines by June 2024 in seat capacity too.

      Still waiting for the official announcement, no flights to ZAG from both Vueling and Finnair in SS24, unfortunately. Also, still no new announcements, which is really odd.

    The numbers are good! After all the population of Croatia is roughly 4 million and has a bunch of airports. A touristic country with prestigious airports such as Dubrovnik and Split. Next year Zagreb is likely to maintain and slightly increase its numbers thanks to Ryanair. Zadar will also receive more traffic from Norwegian. The future of Croat aviation is looking amazing. BRAVO Hrvatska!!

      To anon 22:14 - if we only call them lcc's, bu in fact they are agencies flights to the coast, without firm schedule. BTW, Dalmatians make approximately 5% of outbound traffic from split, so there'no money there... The only real Lcc's are stationed at Zagreb, ant that's the only serious airport considering low cost airlines and is in constant talk with them. This other Croatian airports in terms of regular traffic are far behind, and yet have to learn from Zagreb, as much from airports in vinity, like Tirana, Northern Italy,Romania (several hubs), and Bulgaria

    ZAG had more passengers in September than in July and more passengers in October than in June. Has that ever happened?!
    At any rate it shows far less seasonality in Zagreb. Now if only the flag carrier were merely half decent and had an actual strategy, instead of being what it is...

      It is excellent news and a direct result of Ryanair's arrival. Ryanair has reasonably consistent capacity on sale year-round and uses high pricing in the summer and low pricing in the winter to fill its aircraft. Croatia Airlines, on the other hand, shifts capacity to Split between mid-May and mid-September which dampens the growth in summer traffic. The overall result is an evening out of passenger traffic.

      Could be related to covid. During the pandemic truck options were limited so many companies were forced to dispatch goods by plane. That is why cargo airlines made a lot of money during that period.

      Once covid passed and the trucking industry started to recover, businesses decided to switch to road transport as a good way to reduce costs. Sure it takes longer but it also costs a lot less.

      Another reason could be OU's focus on the coast. Them moving capacity elsewhere might have limited the amount of cargo that was moved on scheduled flights within their network.
