Work on the expansion of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is continuing to advance. Most of the construction is now based in the future 2.800 square metre central plaza, behind the duty-free area. This includes the opening of new food and beverage outlets. Recently, a new Hudson News store has opened, while work is taking place on Ambar, a Balkan cuisine eatery which has restaurants in downtown Belgrade and Washington DC, Burrito Madre, a local Mexican fast-food chain, as well as an In and Out burger store, in reference to the popular American chain In-n-Out. Additional stores are to open soon.
As previously reported, local chain Monument is building a new landside restaurant inside the Terminal 1 building, while the popular local bakery chain Hleb & Kifle is opening a new store in the C wing of the terminal, next to the transfer desk between gates C2 and C3.
A new hangar is currently under construction behind the airport’s B platform. As EX-YU Aviation News understand, it is an aircraft maintenance workshop and spare parts warehouse for Prince Aviation. Asked to comment, the company said it could neither confirm nor deny that the new hangar belongs to them.
The Alstef Group has completed the upgrade of the airport’s baggage handling system. While the on-site work was first initiated in June 2022 with the installation of 28 check-in conveyors and counters, outbound screening and sortation systems, make-up carousels, out-of-gauge lines and roller tables, the subsequent phase involved the installation of 33 check-in conveyors and counters, an outbound screening system, carousel-based sortation systems and a make-up carousel. Phase 3, which was completed in June of this year, focused on establishing a two-way connection between Terminals 1 and 2, integrating essential systems and installing 50 conveyors. The final departures phase was focused on the dedicated transfer line, comprising thirteen conveyors designed for efficient baggage transfer. The entire system is controlled via the Alstef Group Bagware - a proprietary software suite providing Sortation Allocation Control and supervisory control and data acquisition. A notable innovation within this endeavour is the integration of the BAGXONE Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV, pictured below), providing connectivity between the screening reconciliation zone and the departures make-up carousels. In rare instances, the AGV can also efficiently redirect baggage from the reconciliation zone to the baggage destruction zone.
The airport has also upgraded its 24/7/365 real-time operational and surveillance systems. TR Services Serbia, the AV integrator on the project, has installed five new video walls at the airport’s revamped Control Centre. The system monitors cameras as well as specific web applications, enabling a number of layouts and presets.

DeleteNo, it was not their own software it was Collins Aerospace. Belgrade Airport, and no airport for that matter, has their own inhouse software for checkin. If you don't know something, at least hold back from making comments.

DeleteHow exactly do you think that would work? They would fully implement a new software which would be connected to all the points while also being constantly updated with the latest state the platform they actually use is at? And then the check-in agents just start a new "app" and it all works?
DeleteBecause you can't have a back up system in place. When you have software installed on computers you have one. Transfering from one software provider to another takes usually 7 days (and has to be organised with the new software provider to do the transition) and staff have to be trained to use it because they are not the same. It's like switching between Microsoft and Apple. But you simply can't have two providers at one airport and no one does. That's why no airports could not just switch to a back up 3 weeks ago when there was a global outage. Your back up is pen and paper, so called manual check in.

All it takes is for a single American traveller to complain to head office in California about bad service or food. Serbia cannot stoop the 1990s when everything was fake. Can you imagine a fake Macdonalds [deliberately misspelt] being opened? You just cannot do this.

Will Momentum have open deck looking towards runway?
ReplyDeleteNo, the deck you can see in the render is towards the road (basically next to the T1 main building). There used be a cafe there for many years with an open deck in summer.

DeleteSomething needs to be done to shorten that 900 metre walk for disembarking passengers to passport control.
ReplyDeleteYou need to travel more, that's what needs to be done: Passengers at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport have the longest walk of any US airport with 2.16 miles between check-in and their gates. That's almost 3.5 kilometers.
DeleteLong walk is fine as long as they add the escalator floors, they started it towards C gates but i am not sure if they plan to add more or not?
DeleteUntil I started visiting this blog I never knew people complained about walking so much. I understand some people have disabilities, but they are provided with the wheelchair service. Is 900m really that much for an able-bodied person (most people are able-bodied)?
DeleteExactly, they just need to add travelators. I never liked the the top floor addition because passengers arriving at A gates have to go the long way around whereas in the past, it was a very quick exit. They needed to build more intra-floor connections between the top floor and passport control.
DeleteYes, 900m walk from airbridges to passport control for that small airport is way too much. It has no reasonable explanation. And at the same time you can unintentionally enter the transitvarea because the only separation is one person in front of opened gates.
