NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier Eurowings will discontinue its service between Dusseldorf and Zagreb next month. The final service between the two cities is scheduled for January 7, after which flights will be terminated. Initially, the carrier planned to end operations on the route on March 27 of next year but has now brought forward the date. During the summer of 2024 the route was maintained two and three times per week, depending on the month. No other airline operates between the two cities. Changes remain possible.

Ryanair NRN route has taken toll on DUS route.

Eurowings has started and terminated flights from DUS to ZAG many times. I remember when they stopped flying the route when they got rid of their Dash aircraft from the fleet. Then they started it again, then they cancelled winter flights, then they increased frequencies in the summer etc etc.

Ryanair flies to Weeze year-round and is much more reliable and hugely cheaper. Plus, most of the Croatian diaspora is in Cologne and Eurowings continues to fly there. So this decision is not a surprise.

They will go to 5x next year if sales go like they are right now. No one was expecting the sales, so Eurowings is seriously thinking about stationing an A319 in summer, using it for Germany and Spain flights

The prices were high from the moment it went on sale. So it does not reflect actual demand.

      Ann 10:45 - not true

Prices for all Lju flights were set at 40€ (and still are). You can see that some flights are going for 140€

My friend's uncle, a pastor who lives there, bought a return ticket for 90 when it went on sale

He'd be paying close to 200 by now lol

I really cannot imagine how there could possibly be more demand from/to LJU compared to ZAG for this route. Smaller catchment area, less gastos, less tourist potential, less significant airport, closer to Germany etc. (not meant badly) except maybe: EW made a deal w special (larger) discounts w Fraport for LJU...

Zagreb has flights to Cologne, Weeze, Hahn, Frankfurt and Eindhoven. All of these can be reached by car from the areas where gastos live in Nord-Rhein Westphalia.

Ljubljana only has flights to Frankfurt.

I can't say I am ok with this. However Germany is really not doing well right now and Croatian gastos are the fist to be affected by inflation. Industrial activity in Germany declined last month again. This year it declined by 5% which is a lot for the economy of their size.

May I ask for the source of the 5% number?

The European Commission's Autumn Forecast projects in 2024 a 0.1% GDP contraction is in Germany. This is from EC, now we wait for the source for 5%.

      No problem.

"On the year, industrial production is down by almost 5%. The drop was driven by all sectors."

Even a 5% drop in industrial output is pretty meaningless for Germany because the German economy is 70% service-sector based. Industry is less than 30%.

      Yes.

A 5% drop for the size of German economy is crazy a lot.
