NEWS FLASH
Zagreb Airport reopened shortly after midnight following an almost ten-hour closure caused by a runway excursion involving a Cessna jet operated by Air Pannonia. The suspension of air traffic on Sunday afternoon and evening, which also disrupted some services on Monday morning, led to the cancellation of 59 flights, including 28 departures and 31 arrivals. The aircraft involved was not carrying any passengers at the time of the incident.
In a statement issued today, Zagreb Airport said, “There was no emergency alert declared at the airport. According to procedure for such incidents, an investigation had to be conducted first, followed by the aircraft recovery process. Since the damaged aircraft came to a stop on a dirt surface near the edge of the runway, the recovery process was complex and required specialised additional equipment and additional time to prevent further damage”. It added, “Zagreb Airport is equipped with the necessary technical equipment, which was utilised in this case. In such situations, procedures are followed in accordance with established protocols, which include assistance and coordination with external emergency services. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our special thanks to the Public Fire Department of Velika Gorica for their coordination and support”.
I wish it wasn't so.
