Airbus A319 - soon in the Adria Airways livery
The aircraft and engine leasing company AerCap Aviation Solutions will provide 2 new Airbus A319s to Adria. As a part of its fleet renewal programme Adria will lease 2 A319s from AerCap which are scheduled to arrive in Ljubljana in April next year. The third aircraft, which will not be leased from AerCap, should be delivered by 2013 although no firm date has been set. It is still not clear whether the third Airbus will be leased or purchased.The lease contract will last for 12 years although Adria has the option to fully purchase the aircraft within those 144 months. The 2 A319s will be brand new. The airline says that the A319 is economical for the route profile of Adria Airways. One of the three A320s that are being phased out has been leased to the Libyan Afriqiyah Airways. Adria says that the new aircraft are more economical and environmentally friendly compared to the existing fleet and conforms to the carbon dioxide emission standard which steps into force in 2011.
Adrias fleet to me was always intresting with A320's and their CRJ's with nothing in the middle until they brought in the B735's...would be nice to see the A319 replace the A320.
ReplyDeleteNew fleet with A319, CRJ-900 and CRJ-200 with additional one A320 still there mainly for charter destinations and LJU-IST route will be much more efficient than old mix of A320 and CRJ-200.
ReplyDeleteif im not mistaken, those A320's are still from the days when Slovenia was a Yugoslav state and that the aircraft arrived with YU registration :-)
ReplyDeletederringnYes, I believe they are about 20 years old. I had a chance to fly them on many occasions. Inside they still look very clean and fresh compared to some aircraft of that age in the US. I have to admit that Adria and Croatia Airlines have the cleanest aircraft I have ever seen. If I am not wrong, back then, Adria bought them brand new from Airbus. They had couple of engine malfunctions and had to turn back to LJU flying with one engine only.

I would love to read about airline strategies, company development in general, confort and etc.... why ljubljana - airport has more destinations than belgrade !?
ReplyDeleteI don't think LJU Airport serves more destinations than BEG. Adria focuses primarily on transferring passangers from the Balkans to the West. Most of their flights to Germany are filled with the Balkan diaspora. Regardless of who they fly, they have excellent customer service and modern fleet. As mentioned before, their aircraft are one of the cleanest I have ever seen. I just wish that one day they start flying intercontinental routes as well. I guess that won't be possible any soon, at least not while they are under LH's patronage, feeding the MUC and HUB airports with the passangers from Balkans.

Also, please keep in mind that Slovenia has much higher standard of living than Serbia resulting in more people being able to afford flying. This becomes very evident during the fall/winter season where we don't see that drastic decline in passenger numbers as for example with SJJ/SPU/BEG airports, which see a relatively large influx of Diaspora/tourist passengers during the summer season and than stagnate during the winter time. It is also important to mention that Adria has pretty much unrestricted access to fly to any destinations within the EU and very little or non-existent competition in the Slovenian market. All this has helped Adria to grow and become an important player in the Balkans.
