Passenger numbers up in 2012
Jat Airways has had a solid start to the year, by handling 74.908 passengers in January, an increase of 8% compared to the same month last year. This is despite a drop in the number of operated flights by 7%. The average cabin load factor stood at 66% a big 10 point increase on last year.Despite persistent media speculation regarding Jat’s future and increased competition, results show passengers are returning to the Serbian carrier. In January, on flights heading to and from Podgorica and Tivat, Jat recorded a 23% passenger increase. On Euro Mediterranean services numbers were up 5% while charter flights saw a 410% passenger increase, although it should be noted that the number of operated charters increased by 100%. Last year they were mostly inexistent during the winter months.
Jat ended 2011 as the second busiest airline in the former Yugoslavia by welcoming 1.219.703 passengers. Its revenues were also significantly up although its actual profits and losses will be known once the official financial results are published. A total of nine promotional ticket sales last year could hit the airline’s finances despite them leading to passenger growth.

I am actually quite happy that more flights are being added between 09:00 and 10:00.
ReplyDeleteAfter the morning rush-hour that period was like a ghost town.
Now we have Jat to Paris, Swiss to Zurich, Olympic to Athens and Montenegro Airlines. Turkish is a welcome addition.
Great news for JAT. However, I think it may not be so good news on the financial front. At least revenues are going up but now they need to bring operational costs down.

I was really surprised to hear about Niki... flew OS couple of days ago, Niki was at the adjacent gate at the same time. Both VIE-BEG flight had just over 15 pax. Perhaps a slow day, but again...
DeleteGreat news regarding TK. Asian connections are now very very good via Istanbul, but now they need to introduce the piece concept instead of 23kg.
Flydubai should also increase the number of frequencies to Belgrade, what do you think ?

ReplyDeleteI know that a single experience does not really demonstrate how a route is doing, but like I said, Niki and Austrian both had something like 15-20 pax each. They could all comfortably fit in OS Q400, with a lot of room to spare.
DeleteOS is also increasing capacity in Belgrade, they will regularly use A320 in the afternoon.

They would prefer to fly with stopover in SOF
but this is no more option...
I actually think that if they could add another route in the exYu it would be good. For example LJU.. I was also thinking about SKP, but i doubt it has as potential as Ljubljana.
DeleteFor example flight LJU-BEG-DOH, or eventually flight SKP-BEG-DOH, cuz frankly i doubt that BEG-SKP-DOH would work, just like Koko said, cuz of the existing flydubai.
Best would be Sofia too, and to give the rights to QR to fly BEG-SOF too, but that is not an option...

DeleteI'm not an insider, but the reason why Qatar Airways is flying to ZAG via BUD is solely because of fleet shortage. If they had fleet surplus, they would no doubt not be worried of loads for a ZAG nonstop flight; they know they can fill their planes up even to Croatia. Because they are rapidly expanding, they're (temporarily) short of some a/c to furfill newer destinations with non-stop flights. As of this month they still have 7 A320s, and, if their lucky, hopefully 4 or 5 787s to be delivered this year. As Boeing and Airbus get more fresh metal to Doha, Qatar will only then make an announcement for Belgrade. My prediction is that they won't be ready until the end of the summer or maybe fall/end of 2012.
