Air Traffic Control Centre opens in Ljubljana

New headquarters for Slovenian air traffic control

Ljubljana Air Traffic Control moved into a new multi million euro control centre at Jože Pučnik Airport on Tuesday. The new building, worth 27 million euros, stretches over 10.800 square metres and will cater for the growing number of aircraft flying over the country on an annual basis. On average, Slovenian air traffic control handles 734 flights per day, with the number expected to double by 2020. The now former Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Minister, Zvonko Černač (a new government was sworn in during the week), attended the opening of the new premises adding that he was happy that the project had been successfully concluded. He highlighted that the work had been completed within the planned financial framework, which was not always the case with such large investments. The new Air Traffic Control Centre is one of the most modern in the region.

The new Air Traffic Control Centre is the latest in a string of aviation related infrastructure projects in the country. Recently, the construction of a brand new terminal at Jože Pučnik Airport was approved. The new terminal, which will be built next to the existing passenger building, will cover an area of 31.200 square metres. Its price tag will amount to between 55 and 89 million euros. Furthermore, late last year, a brand new passenger terminal at Maribor Airport was opened. A cargo and logistics centre is also set to open near the airport while the old passenger terminal has gone under reconstruction.

The new Air Traffic Control Centre in Ljubljana was designed by the “Sadar + Vuga” architect studio in 2006 and originally featured a one hundred metre air traffic control tower as well. The Air Traffic Control Centre is part of the massive Aeropolis project scheduled for completion by 2021 which intends to create a small city around Jože Pučnik Airport with its own business centre, business park, logistics park and hotel.

    off topic:
    Montenegro will continue INI-TGD flights this summer session with 5 weekly flights.
    With those flights and Triste flight of MistralAir as well as Antalya flights of Sky Airlines we hope Nis to see passengers growth this year. Cheers!

    Architecture is a matter of taste.
    I like the new building a lot.
    Those modern structures are only depressing when they are brand new.
    Wait some years till bushes and trees grow higher around them...
    then it will look really beautiful!

    @ex-yu aviation,
    Would you please be so kind to answer me one question : When one (or few) idiot(s) here place a negative, insulting comment, mostly about croatia or zagreb airport, those comments are staying here for hours. But when someone reacts to such comments by insulting serbia, jat or belgrade airport, than all comments, including the first which provoked reaction, are erased within minutes. Could you please tell me why original comments which could provoke reaction, and are most of the time not even related to that day's topic, are not erased immediately and promptly?
    Thank you very much in advance for your time and explanation.

      Comments are deleted as soon as possible. I can’t moderate 24/7. Dozens of comments having nothing to do with the topic at hand were already deleted today before another barrage of insulting comments were deleted just now. A certain person is very persistent with the same comment on every single news item and despite the fact that I delete the comment several times per day the person keeps coming back, provoking and creating spam war. If you think I take pleasure in leaving certain comments for a few hours before I can get to deleting them then you are mistaken.

      I'm not here 24/7 either, and it was probably coincidence what I noticed and asked about. I'm fully satisfied with the answer and I apologize if you got the impression that I blame you for something. I like very much this blog and I'll continue visiting it. Thanks again for the answer and explanation.

    I was the one that made some overview on zagrab. I just said what cro media said. You just don't want to hear the truth about zagrab airport because you are used to reading propaganda versions from hdz and sdp.
