Adria’s A319s moving to Belgrade

Jat Airways CEO, Vladimir Ognjenović, said yesterday that the Serbian carrier will take delivery of two Airbus A319s and two A320s in the last week of May and early June. The arrival of the leased aircraft should ease the carrier’s fleet problems which have forced it to cancel numerous flights throughout the year due to a shortage of aircraft. According to Mr. Ognjenović, two Airbus A319s will be leased from Slovenia’s Adria Airways. BOC Aviation, Asia’s largest aircraft leasing company will provide one A320 each. The arrangement raises questions as to how Adria will be able to lease both of its A319s and maintain its summer schedule with a fleet of smaller Bombardiers and a single A320. The aircraft are to be on lease to Jat until 2016. One of Adria’s A319s (registered S5-AAP) has been operating ad hoc charter flights for British car manufacturer Land Rover over the past few motnhs.

Last week the Serbian government cleared necessary funds for the lease of the new aircraft which will also include an ATR72-500. Originally, two ATRs were planned to join the fleet, however, currently there are not enough available on the market. As a result, one ATR will be leased, while the second once it is available. The ATR in question is likely to be leased from the ILFC leasing company and was formerly owned by Azerbaijan’s AZAL Airlines.

Jat’s cabin crew and pilots will begin training for the new Airbus aircraft next Friday. The training process is set to last for a month. Mr. Ognjenović yesterday expressed hope that Jat and Airbus will resolve their issues relating to the 1998 order for eight Airbus aircraft. “We wish to continue our fleet renewal process and we hope to finalise a contract with Airbus for the purchase of four aircraft”, Mr. Ognjenović said. He added, “With that, we would completely renew our fleet by 2015”. Jat has made a 23.5 million dollar advance payment on the aircraft.

Well, the CEO of Jat is an idiot but I doubt he is that big of an idiot. Maybe people in Adria do not want to make any comments until they figure out what they will do this coming summer season.

There are Atr 72-500s on the market but there are no aircraft which are in a good enough condition. Most of them are nearing to their D checks. So no, it is not a joke.

    U ovom momentu Jat:
    - hitno nabavlja 5 novih aviona, uz nastavak nabave do 10 novih komada (8 A319/320 i 2 ATR 72-500)
    - ozbiljno širi broj letova (frekvencija i linija)

Yes, in next 5 months to France, Belgium, Czech Republic 3 times, to USA (New York and Las Vegas), and of course several times to Bosnia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy (but I don't count this as trips).

I will also come to Serbia (Bela Crkva, Pancevo, Novi Sad and Apatin) for some 5 days. Why?

I am sorry that I earned that reputation, but my criticism is always same. On same level to Zagreb airport as Belgrade airport, to Croatia as Jat... Trust me, CEO's of Croatia Airlines and CEO of Zagreb airport really make my life hard because of my criticism. My business have a big problems because of it. They hate me much more than you.

But I understand it is hard to hear criticism when it is against you, than when it is against someone else. And when ever my criticism was against BEG or Jat it was based on facts and usually it happens that way.

So far this year we have had the following reports:

January 14 - EXCLUSIVE Jat Airways fleet renewal
January 16 - Fleet shortage hits Jat
    January 21 - Jat’s fleet crisis deepens
January 25 - Jat confirms fleet plans
January 29 - Jat to decide on future fleet on Thursday
    February 4 - Jat’s fleet renewal approved
February 14 - Government approves Jat fleet renewal
February 23 - Jat and Aviogenex considering joint venture
February 27 - Seven offers for Jat’s fleet renewal

    And today we have:

April 16 - Jat to lease Adria’s Airbuses

So why sould we believe this one, when the previous 9 stories turned out to be bullshit?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous11:06

Because the fleet renewal could not be done until the Russian credit was approved. Since it happened last week Jat could only get the funds now. That is why.

It is up to you whether you want to believe the CEO of the airline. This is a report of what he said. The article raises the question as to how this will happen since it would seriously impact Adria’s operations. And yes, EX-YU Aviation was the first to report that a fleet renewal plan has been made back in January, which obviously did turn out to be true. Whether it will materialise is up to the airline and its owner.

One month of training is not enough to be a full pilot on an airbus. Jat should stick with Boeing, they will get their pilots trained for airbus then they will leave to go to other airlines.

The summer schedule for Adria has already started, yet check to see how much use the A319s are getting:

If Adria really provides Jat with the A319s then it could spell the end of their base in Pristina. This would come as great news for Dubrovnik as they could rank higher on the Yugoslav scale of airports.
I doubt they would base an CRJ 900 there.

Anyway, regarding ZRH. Hard to say why they did not open it. I started to represent Etihad immediately after they launched flights to GVA, back in 2004. At that time there was no QR in Switzerland, neither EK was flying to GVA. They only had one daily ZRH flight in the afternoon.
The deal was EK does not touches GVA and EY not ZRH. But than EK launched 2nd daily ZRH and QR launched GVA and later even ZRH. Back in June 2011, EK launched daily GVA. EY still not in ZRH. Late 2011 even Oman Air connected ZRH with 4 weekly A330-200/300 and still does.
EY to ZRH was 2-3 times a rumour but until today, no realization.
However with the current circumstances, I don t see the need of EY flying to ZRH as long the load factors of their competitors do not improve.

The last load factor until March I heard fm the country mgr is 75% for ZRH-MCT incl C class.
Don t have any information about other legs. Best destination sold ex ZRH besides MCT is BKK
