Ural Airlines to Belgrade

Soon in Belgrade

Russia’s Ural Airlines has applied for a license to launch flights from Sochi to Belgrade this summer. The airline plans to operate flights from the city, situated on the Black Sea coast, to Belgrade once per week, every Thursday, starting June 27. Jat Airways operates flights to Sochi each week, catering for Serbian engineers and construction workers who are working on projects for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, which are to be held in the city next February. However, Jat’s service is non-commercial and tickets are not put on sale to the general public.

Flights between Serbia and Russia are becoming increasingly lucrative with the Belgrade - Moscow service being one of Jat’s most profitable. Both Jat and Aeroflot are operating a total of 28 weekly flights between the two capitals this summer. Serbia and Russia recently revised their bilateral air agreement which now allows other airlines, rather than just Jat and Aeroflot, to operate flights between the two countries, giving the likes of Ural Airlines a chance to try their luck. Ural Airlines applied for a license at the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate only last week and is expected to be given approval by mid June.

Ural Airlines, which is primarily based in Yekaterinburg in central Russia, has never operated flights to Belgrade but is present in the former Yugoslavia. It runs seasonal summer flights to both Pula and Tivat. The airline operates a 27 member all Airbus fleet. During the month of June Belgrade will also see another new arrival as Etihad Airways launches its flights from Abu Dhabi while Wizz Air will launch several new routes from the Serbian capital.

Hmm this could be interesting if it really happens. Didn't they also mention linking Budapest and Belgrade? I really hope that the flight will be a direct one as there is a small demand but it is still big enough to sustain at least two weekly CRJ-200 flights.

Did you notice that it is still not possible to book any flight from or to Belgrade on wizzair.com after October 26, but it is possible to book flights from and between other wizzair destinations.
